Picked this up off of craigslist yesterday:





1978 Shasta 160 pop-up

If nothing else, It'll make a good base when I decide I'm ready to build something, but for the time being it should satisfy my itch to camp.

If I got one of those, I'd throw away the canvas, build some fold-able hard walls, and have a really neat, leak proof, camper.

It would be smaller, but I don't need all that sleeping space for me and the dog.

If it were in better shape, I'd probably put some effort into a hard sided camper conversion, but there's plenty of hidden and not so hidden rot, as well as just the issues you would expect fold from a 30 year trailer.

This will make an interesting restoration. When do you plan to be done?

Funding/workshop space permitting:

Rip the popup off of it,
Blast the frame and give it a good coat of paint,
Save the sink/stove/icebox/bed cushions/power converter and awning

Add some stabilizer jacks, and build a modified version of Glen-L's Sequoia

But for now, I'll just use it for what it is, a cheap popup camper.

I looked at the Sequoia plans and thought they were pretty cool.

I should have it at Loyd Park.

I've been looking at the sequoia plans for years. I just want it a bit wider and taller(Full standy) than the stock plans.

I had a popup that had a bad top so I removed the topbeds and canvas and saved the whole bottom part. I framed up the wall and top with 1/8 in plywood outside and inside, made shelves, installed a small fridge. Then on the outside I would lay a heavy coat of paint and lay muslim cloth in the wet paint then coat over that with more paint. When I had finished the top and sides like that it was just like fiberglassing it, I have not had a leak anywhere. I retained the origanial door. Dulcimer Man
