Teardrops n Tiny Travel Trailers

I'm working on my plans traveling across TX. We enter and spend a few days in San Antonio as we explore the MIssion trail. Ya, I have to see the Alamo!

From there we head to Big Bend, yet to long a drive with too much in between.. We won't make that drive! We just explore too much...

Amistad Nation Rec Area looks really cool, yet best I can tell is closed.. Any clue here?
Backup would be to use one of these 'roadside' spots (rest areas to me) that allow overnighting. Anyone have any experience with these or up to date info?

I'm working San Antonio to Big Bend and hoping to explore a bit along the way. Any info or direction will e truly appreciated!

I would not stop overnight at any roadside rest stop that close to the border. Even the well lit up rest stops along the Interstate.

My route of choice would be going to Fort Stockton on IH10, south to Marathon, then south to Big Bend. There are some campgrounds in that area, but in some locations oil field workers keep most of them pretty well filled. La Loma Del Chivo in Marathon is a "hostel" with "cabins" not sure if they have camp site. In Marfa there are some campgrounds, not familiar with any of them. A new place near Big Bend is Ocotillos Village in Terlingua, this is a newer place, I have only read about it. I believe they have some camp sites. But it is a few miles out of the way. https://www.ocotillosvillage.com/

i would 2nd the suggestion to not overnight at rest stops along the border even though it is legal and they are free

too much unrest along that trail

if you do end up swinging southwest a stop @ Brackettville would be on my list

just west of SA is Garner SP which has beautifu clear water running thru it

the town of Fredericksburg is loaded w/ cool stuff to see n do along w/ some fine eats

just west of Fredericksburg is Enchanted Rock State natura Area w/ a huge chunk of granite you can walk up on top of

weekend BBQ is served up by the ton(literally) @ The Salt Lick in Driftwood just west of Austin

you can aso find excellent BBQ @ Coopers in Junction

be ready to stop and look when you cross the Pecos River

in Langtree you need to stop n visit the Judge Roy Bean Museum(he was a real person not just some ficticious character in the Lonesome Dove series)

enter the Big Bend NP from Marathon down US 385

once in the BBNP area you can spend quite a while visiting points of interest

I've picked up a spot in Seminole Canyon SP. It's just west of Amistad NRA (seems to be part of the canyon) and works for a 1/2 way overnight to Big Bend NP.

Being the way we travel, stopping anytime something looks cool, this 3.5-4hr drive should takes us all day! LOL I've become used to this, would never change this habit and find so many interesting things/folks along the way!

We will be doing the roadside outside of Marfa though.. I have the wife looking forward to seeing UFO's! Well, me too... lol.
