We just got back, thought you might be interested in some photos. We actually had a few lurkers out there and what was really wierd about it was they were all from the Dallas/Fort Worth area.

Thanks Steve, it was a lot different than I remembered it. It was really nice until the wind kicked up yesterday. By the end of the day it was time to pack up and head home. I was surprised at how different the sand was from that at the beach. This sand doesn't stick it brushes right off.

Looks like ya'll had a good time. I wish the beach sand would brush right off.

Yea, that's because there's no moisture within 150 miles of Monahans!

Nice pics! Brings back memories. I'm from Hobbs, New Mexico originally which is about 90 miles north of Monahans. When in high school (1967) we used to go down to the dunes in Monahans to sand surf. There were some tall dunes then. Don't know if the wind has left any of those. Lots of fun. Sometimes the wind got nasty and the sand would sting you. Back then you could drive dune buggies on the dunes but I don't know if that is still allowed. Sunsets out in that part of Texas are hard to beat.

Monahans is about 30 miles west of Odessa, Tx. The park covers 3800 acres of sand dunes. I hadn't been there in over 20 years and it seems like to me there is more vegetation then there used to be. And Steve's right there is very little moisture in the area. One difference in the sand though is the size of the grains, they area about a 20th of the size of beach sand. It is super fine.

That's pretty close to me in El Paso. I didn't know that was over there. It's a little further East than Carlsbad Caverns. It looks very similiar to White Sands outside of Alamagordo, New Mexico.

Steve, try using baby powder the sand will just brush right off.

I haven't been out there in nearly twenty years. Might make a run before it gets to hot. Is a little over 2 hours from Abilene. Thanks for the pictures.
