Mordor v6.0 May 21, 2021

Postby Wolfgang92025 » Thu Feb 25, 2021 8:54 pm

Mordor v6.0 is a go !!!!

So, some clarification……………
Up till now Mordor campouts were organized by Randy (Wolffarmer). During the last couple of trips, he expressed a desire to step back and just be a participant.
So, since I enjoy camping in Craters of the Moon, I will try to set up Mordor v 6.0.

When: Friday, May 21,2021 to Sunday, May 23, 2021 edit... Early Friday to Monday May 24th.
Where: Cream Can Junction, north of Minidoka Idaho.
How to get there: go east of Minidoka about two miles and turn north on the road (Arco-Minidoka road) that says "Desert Road" Or something like that. About 20 miles north is Cream Can Junction. The camp will be west about 1/4-1/2 miles to some low hills/bluffs and camping on the east side of those. If some sheep person is not there already. If that is the case, I will find some place that you will run on to me and my Woody teardrop. The road to Cream Can Junction is a wide gravel road suitable for pretty much any car and trailer.
What to do: Split Butte, Bear Trap Cave, Crystal Ice Cave (to go inside takes some serious climbing gear), Wapi Park & Pillar Butte, also found some lave tubes (edit Lariat Cave) on the map to explore near Wapi Park . Could take the Arco-Minidoka road the rest of the way to Arco, get a milk shake and come back.
What you might see: for starters, lots of open space. Not a lot of traffic (maybe 3 or 4 vehicles a day). Last few times we have seen snakes, but not right around camp. The area does support all kinds of wild life, but it does require some luck to get a brief glimpse. Likely to hear coyotes during the night of in the distance.
Cell signal: not likely for phone calls, but on surrounding higher ground you can usually get texts in the early morning and in the evenings.
What to bring: probably will not be very cold, or very rainy. Expect wind. I would not expect conditions to be good for an open fire. So plan accordingly. No gas to buy in Minidoka.

And of course there is no facilities out there. Bring what you think you will need for 3 or 4 days of fun.
What do you think?

Are you planning on being there the 20th and leaving the 24th? Otherwise you would only have 1 full day of activities. Just checking so I can make some plans. George.

He is in the hospital and doing fine. I won't disclose the situation since I don't know if he would want that. Going up to see him today, should be back home sometime this week if all goes well.

Howdy Folks. It has been a rough 2-3 months. 23 days in the hospital ( so far ) but feeling better every day. If this keeps up I will see you at Cream Can. I may not be able to stay the night but would like to see the ole gang again.

Found I have leukaemia and not one of the better ones. Right now I am doing good but this is only the start of treatment. Going back to Boise March 17 for a bone marrow biopsy to see how I am doing. My sisters are here to clean up my house and take care of me. I do not need a lot of care except to ready my arm and PICC lines to take a shower.

See you in May.

Randy
