Mordor v6.1 Sept 16 - 19,2021

Postby Wolfgang92025 » Thu Jul 29, 2021 11:06 pm

It's time to go camping......... :applause:  8)
Not able to find a decent camping spot ? Tired of big crowds ? Want to get away from it all ?
Well, here is your chance.

When: Thursday (late), September 16,2021 to Sunday, September 19, 2021
Where: 1.5 miles north of Cream Can Junction, north of Minidoka Idaho. When Randy showed me the spot in July, depending on which side of the ridge you were standing the wind was blocked and was a lot more comfortable.
How to get there: Go east of Minidoka about two miles and turn north on the road (Arco-Minidoka road) that says "Desert Road". About 20 miles north is Cream Can Junction. The camp will be 1.5 miles north of the junction on the west side side of the road next to a small pressure ridge formed by a lava flow. The road is a wide gravel road suitable for pretty much any car and trailer. Be advised that for the easiest and fastest route you need to go to Minidoka and follow the directions. Google map has in the past send folks on a real back country road when coming in from the north east.
What to do: Split Butte, Bear Trap Cave, Crystal Ice Cave (to go inside takes some serious climbing gear), Wapi Park & Pillar Butte, Lariat Cave, large under ground lava tube . Could take the Arco-Minidoka road the rest of the way to Arco, get a milk shake and come back.
What you might see: for starters, lots of open space. Not a lot of traffic (maybe 3 or 4 vehicles a day). Last times we did see a snake, but not right around camp. The area does support all kinds of wild life, but it does require some luck to get a brief glimpse. Likely to hear coyotes during the night of in the distance.
Cell signal: not likely for phone calls, but on surrounding higher ground you can usually get texts in the early morning and in the evenings.
What to bring: Weather should be comfortable. But this is Idaho, so it could be hot, cold or rain. Expect wind. I would not expect conditions to be good for an open fire. So plan accordingly. No gas to buy in Minidoka.

And of course there is no facilities out there. Bring what you think you will need for 3 or 4 days of fun.
What do you think?
Wolfgang

I'm ready for camping anytime, and the desert has become my favorite. I'll be there with my battery all recharged.

Looking forwards to camping in the Fall.
After your problem with the battery, I decided it would be a good idea for me to carry a jump pack just in case.
With any luck now that I have it the battery will never give me any problems.

Got a new camping buddy.
I don't think she will be ready for a solo trip till spring.

I do hope to make it but this time with my trailer for at least one night of camping. Right now I feel good enough. Not fine but good enough. And depends on Doctor visits and Chemo. I know I will be going to the hospital on Monday 23rd for a regular blood test and bandage change. But if I can't make it for a night of camping should get out there to shoot the breeze

Last round of Chemo left me a lot weaker and tired ( lazy ) my hemoglobin was down just a bit last monday Aug 30th and they let me have a unit of red cells if I wanted them. I took them and now I feel a lot better. Now I know a little of how a vampire feels. Ready to go camping again. If you dare to camp with a vampire. :D

Wolfgang that is a super cute new camping buddy. Can't wait to meet her.

Randy I am not afraid of vampires at all. I'll just bring the garlic. 8) Glad to hear you are feeling better and am looking forward to seeing you in camp. Let me know if you would like any help?

Randy,

Looking forwards to seeing you in camp. 8)

Took Cheyenne camping in Idaho over the long weekend.
All in all she did well. Got to go on a couple of short hikes and that tired her out.
Speaking of vampires, she still is in the biting stage, so you may see some blood.

First real hike in the wild

On the way home. All tuckered out.

See you in less than two weeks. 8) :D

Unfortunately I have to point my truck and teardrop in a different direction this weekend to attend a funeral. Hope you all have fun and that next year brings me better luck with teardrop gatherings.
