Anyone ever go to the Port Townsend Kinetic Sculpture Race ? The wife, kids & I are thinking going this year with the trailer.

Not sure yet. We are still looking into it.

I used to live in Port Townsend. The Kinetic Sculpture race was enjoyable, though usually crowded. I found I got more enjoyment out of the race when I lived there because the local newspaper carried stories of some of the entries prior to the race, so that I was more familiar with the background of the entries. Just my $0.02

Whenever we go over to the Peninsula (which we have been doing for close to forty years) we always have one day designated for perusing Port Townsend. There are many great places to eat to fit all budgets too. It is a great little town. There are camping places close by. Fort Warden is a little ways around but I think it would be worth it. There is also Sequim Bay State Park too. I've never taken in the Kinetic Sculpture race but sounds pretty interesting.

Actually Fort Worden is right in town, Fort Townsend is a little out of town and Fort Flagler is on Marrowstone Island across the sound from town. Sequim is about a 30 minute drive from Port Townsend. And if you go to PT during the summer and everything is booked up, then there is always the fairgrounds. Fort Worden books very early, especially the beach spots (there are two campgrounds in Fort Worden, one at the beach and one up in the woods a bit). Our maiden voyage of the Eggscape was a trip to Port Townsend for the Wooden Kayak Rendezvous which is held at Fort Worden State Park the first weekend in August.
We liked the town so much our weekend turned into a week and 5 months later we bought a house there. My mother moved up last March and is having a blast, in fact she called me this weekend to tell me all about the Kinetic Sculpture race. Bill your right. I was thinking of Fort Flagler instead of Fort Warden. I think Fort Flagler would be the better choice for camping even though it is about a 20 min drive to Port Townsend. The drive out to Merristone Island is very picturesque, passing through Nordland, which looks very much like a New England fishing village, and then cuts its way through old growth timber and finally ending at Fort Flagler.



So Bill is your kayak a Pygmy Kayak?

Ft. Flagler is a great campground, But if they have the wooded area open i would look into that area.

The campgrounds by the water will get pretty windy, And there is not much protection in the area, ( for the wind) But is a great place to camp also. Maybe we will see you there soon, As we will be doing a lot of practice in the picknic park area over the winter.
