Live Oak Music Festival June 13-15 2014

I've gone to the Live Oak Music Festival many summers. The setting north of the City of Santa Barbara is beautiful. Live Oak is family friendly and fun for all ages. Have never seen a teardrop trailer there. Hope to see that change. :) It is a popular camping festival. People camp in tents and RVs. It's a fund raiser for our local public radio station KCBX. Next summers musical line up liveoakfest.org/lineup will be announced early in 2014. You can get a flavor of the range of musical acts by seeing who performed in prior years.
The Live Oak Music Festival is held at Live Oak Camp, about twenty minutes west of Santa Barbara. Nestled in the river valley that feeds Cachuma Lake, the site is filled with old oaks that provide restful shade and pristine beauty.

The temperate climate, the shady oaks, the early summer setting, and the slow-moving pace create a pastoral backdrop for relaxing and listening to great music with family and friends. It's hard to imagine a better way to kick off the lazy days of summer.

The focus of the Live Oak Music Festival is, of course, the main stage performances. With musicians from all over the United States and across the globe performing, this hub of the festival is the gathering place for everyone to hear and see some of the finest entertainers anywhere do what they do best: play music. Ranging from traditional, folk, bluegrass and gospel, to blues, jazz, classical and world music, and touching most genres in between, the main stage provides cultural entertainment and education. The music on the main stage is engineered by a top-notch crew, so the sound is second to none for an outdoor venue.

From the opening of the Live Oak Music Festival gates on Friday morning at 8:00 to the closing of the same at noon on Monday, the three-day event provides basic camping accommodations under the shade of old oak trees. Rounding out the camping fare, a variety of diverse food concessions are available.

Each year, for three days, we create a magical community at Live Oak. Aside from the fun, the music and relaxation that we all experience in this wonderful place, what makes this community special is the way we are sensitive to and respectful of our neighbors. The spirit of the Live Oak Way relies on each of us being conscious of how our actions affect those around us...

It may be something (very) fun to plan for next summer. Festival (camping) tickets are now on sale. :)

Nice to see there is interest in coming to Live Oak. People come from nearby towns (lots of locals) and far away states too. Camping tickets always sell out, usually by late Spring.

The campground gates open early Friday morning. About mid day Thursday many people arrive early to line up, sign in and get wrist banded, and camp Thursday night outside the entrance. It's a fun beginning of the festivities. People begin visiting one another and socializing. An early arrival helps you get a "better" camp spot. A teardrop trailer would make an early arrival plenty of fun too (no tent to set up and then take down). A teardrop may break the ice to make new friends.

It is a wonderfully fun camping music festival full of good folks of all ages. Great music, great camping, hot showers, good food, a safe play area for kids, all in a beautiful setting. Several thousand people will happily enjoy a summer weekend together. Many people come year after year to camp with friends and family. Some are well into a second generation. Throughout the campground you can tune in to a low power FM radio that broadcasts the concerts and upcoming activities.

BTW, it takes hundreds of volunteers to put on the Live Oak Music festival. I volunteered many years, most often doing low key security strolls around the audience area. If you have the time and want a "free" camping ticket you can volunteer: liveoakfest.org/volunteer-application

If you have teenage kids there are things they can do too. A favorite job for kids is to be a "hoser" spraying water in the concession area near the main stage to keep dust down.

When I volunteered, I really wish I'd been able to come early in the week as part of the set up crew. They are fun, very dedicated, people. They organize a yummy camp kitchen for their work group. It would free you up to enjoy more of the weekend festival.
