SLO, CA Gathering at Montana de Oro SP Sept. 13-15, 2007

California, Nevada, Utah & Arizona includes Nor. Cal, So. Cal, and Arizona Tearjerkers Chapters

Postby Esteban » Tue Aug 07, 2007 2:40 pm

:) Welcome, Reddiver (Steve):)

I put you on the page 1 RSVP list with a note that you're willing to share a space. (PMed for OK). Steve is coming in a 20' camper van. He's a newbie, like me, looking for ideas to build a Teardrop.

Anyone want to volunteer to share a camping space with him? We're almost full.

Please put me down

Postby Guy » Tue Aug 07, 2007 3:53 pm

Dear Esteban,

Please put me down for a spot. Also if someone needs to park/tear on my spot it is cool with me. Also I do not have to pay for my carload since I am a disabled vet if anyone needs that kind of help please contact.
Regards,

Guy

Guy, glad to have you coming to the SLO Gathering. Sent you a PM.

There's just one spot left. After that we'll start a short waiting list.

Aw, beings how I need electric to run my breathing machine and your letting about anything in, I think I'll bring my motorhome up.

P.S. Maybe I'll just bring a generator up. As a side note. I'm a disabled vet. The only thing is my disability isn't from war time. Does that count. I do have a blue plaque'rd. (nothing against Guy.)

Gage,

I don't think anyone cares whether you bring the tear, the trailer, or a big ol' motorhome. I know that I don't. First and foremost I care about the people who come to the gathering. If they have a teardrop and they bring it, that's great. If they don't, that's fine too because I want to see their smiling faces. I want to see your smiling face. If Dean, Joanie and the kids show up in a psychedelic VW bus I'll be glad to see them! We have a lot of folks who don't have teardrops....yet. They care coming to the event because they are interested in tears and most are planning their build. One of the most memorable trips I've taken in my life was up to the Redwood Gathering last year and we had a pop-up trailer!! I'm thankful that Dean didn't exclude us because we weren't in a tear.

I'll make sure to save you some peach cobbler this time...

If you like VW buses check out GoWesty a local shop in Los Osos that restores and sells them. A few weeks ago a friend and I walked through their lot and lusted over over the beautifully restored vans. There were about 50 of them to see in all stages of restoration. It was fun to "window shop" and wish we could afford one. It might make a nice side trip.

My favorite loaf (VW bus) is the Safari bus. They had the little windows along the edge of the roof and the front windows tilted outwards for air flow. Really cool.

The Pt. Buchon Trail just opened

Postby Esteban » Fri Aug 10, 2007 9:27 pm

I recently hiked the newly opened Point Buchon Trail with a friend. It's spectacularly beautiful. It's an easy mostly level hike with many photographic opportunities. Lower down is a link to a video of the new trail and seashore you see from it.

Here's a snip from The Tribune on Saturday 7/14/07:
"Sea caves and arches, a rare sinkhole, a steelhead (trout) creek andhundreds of roosting seabirds are all to be seen along the new mile-long loop trail that opened Friday just south of Montana de Oro State Park.

The Point Buchon Trail is the first of a series of new opportunities for the public to access coastal lands that have been off limits around Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant, which is owned by Pacific Gas and Electric Co.

Parking for the new trail is at the coon Creek trailhead in Montana de Oro. A paved road leads to a gate at the PG&E property line, which stands ajar during the hours the trail is open."

The trail is open from 8 - 5 Friday - Sunday. The entrance to the trail may be found at the southern end of Pecho Road in Montana de Oro State Park, Ca. (two miles past the historic ranch house). Point Buchon is the most westerly point on the Central Coast.
