If there is still room, put me down for a spot. (Or on the reserve list.) I would like to go but will know better in a couple of weeks whether it's doable or not. Looks like a great area and it would be fun to meet all of you.

I cut it three times and it's still too short!!

Maria Muldaur concert Sunday Sept. 16

Postby Esteban » Fri Aug 17, 2007 11:11 pm

:) If you stay an additional day on Sunday night there's a fun concert coming up in Los Osos you can go to. Maria Muldaur will be singing Sunday Sept. 16t. at the Red Barn concert. It's a low key concert series mostly attended by locals...open to anyone who comes. :)

Maria Muldaur's web site

You can listen to music samples of Maria's songs here: Maria Muldaur's Music Oasis
Send Your Camel To Bed And Listen To Selections From Maria's CDs

Midnight at the Oasis - song sample of an old favorite
Handy Man - song sample from her newest CD A line "he greases my griddle" from within the song seems like it could be a theme song for our collective cast iron addiction.

The concert is held inside an old red barn at a county park in nearby Los Osos that holds maybe 100-125 people. This is about as close to having Maria sing at a house concert in your living room as you can get. It's a deal...only a $10 donation. A pot luck begins at 6PM and the music starts at 7PM. To get a seat it's wise to come early for the pot luck. Otherwise it can be standing room only.

Gage, in the beginning I'd have been :D overjoyed :D to get a dozen people/trailers to come. Now we're full with 35 RSVPs. People are coming form all over California. A few folks are coming from other states, too. A lot of good people are coming with a beautiful variety of trailers.
Fun things, we didn't plan or imagine, are happening at the gathering like the Saturday morning Waffle Off when we'll get to enjoy waffles cooked in old cast iron for breakfast! :D :) 8) :applause:

I do plan to be in the area a day early if my better half can get away from work earlier.(Possably obtian one of the few remaining non reservable camp spots ?)

Camping at the SLO Gathering is full

Postby Esteban » Sat Aug 18, 2007 6:41 pm

There really isn't much more, if any, room to camp at Montana de Oro State Park. We have 35 of the spaces "on hold" out of a total of 46 spaces in the entire campground. The rest of the spaces, only 11 of them, are for anybody from the public on a first come first served basis. They'll probably be filled fast. My suggestion for additional people who want to participate in the SLO Gathering is to make a reservation at nearby Morro Bay State Park (9 miles away) to be sure you have a place to camp. Also MBSP has hot showers. There's plenty of free day use parking in Montana de Oro SP for you to come visit.

hiking at Montana de Oro

Postby Esteban » Mon Aug 20, 2007 12:40 am

Montana do Oro has many miles of mountain biking, hiking, and horse riding trails in the back hills. The Bluff Trail overlooking about a mile of the ocean in is a favorite easy walk/hike. If you want to do a long beach walk you can hike about 10 miles round trip along the nearly deserted Morro Strand beach to the Morro Bay breakwater and back.

 There is a newly opened hiking trail on PG&E land just to the south. I posted pictures and a video link of the Point Buchon Trail, one page back, on page 9 of this thread. It's a trail along the shoreline with beautiful rock formations out in the water.

The old ranch house above Spooner's Cove has a small museum where you can get trail guides.
