I've finally come to the sad conclusion that there's no way I'm getting this thing done in time. Not without cutting so many corners that I would be disappointed in the final result. I've worked too hard and too long (3.5 years) to half-ass the final details. So as much as it pains me, I will not be attending this year.
Driving the 12 hours, 700+ miles to the IRG was not going to be the wisest maiden voyage anyway, especially with a three year old and a wife who's not much of a camper (yet!).
Save a place for us in 2010. We'll be seasoned teardroppers by then!
Hell, your further along than me. I haven't even got my doors and hatch built yet. I hate being the only one in a race. But then again, that means I'm the winner by default.

Gage, The sad thing is that I'm actually even further along than that. I got the skin cut for the sides over the weekend. However, I'm not retired, so I have to keep my clients happy first, build the TD second. That leaves me only a couple hours a day to work on it at most, and that's just not enough. And as you say, take your time, do it right, there will always be another gathering.

:( We have been sorry to hear when our teardrop friends have to cancel. But we do understand and look forward to crossing paths with you again another time. Dean (of the Redwoods) and I have been finalizing up the plans just today and are getting prepared to put on a great romp in the redwoods for those of you who are still coming. And it is our hope that someone coming will do some photography/videos of some of the events, etc. to post on the site for those who weren't able to attend , well.... at least they'll have a chance to be there in spirit.

Please continue to notify us by PM, up until Monday, if you are not able to attend. It will become more difficult to reach Dean or I as we head into the week as access to phone, computer gets limited. We don't have good cell coverage in the IRG area, and the nearest pay phone there is a mile and a half away. We look forward to seeing a lot of you next week and wish you a safe and healthy journey here.

I really really hate I'm going to miss it, if it's anything like the first IRG it will be great. I 'd say it's the best gathering I've ever attended. I wish I was rich and retired like Gage to experience all the gatherings around the globe. ;)

Is it July already?! I just got off the phone with my dad and we are still in line to be there Wednesday morning. It has been a long journey for him but his trip has taken him to see Carlsbad Caverns, Mt Rushmore, Yellowstone, and more. He should be in Portland Wednesday evening for a few additions to the Duck Inn (or quack a shack) a few days of rest with his kids and then we are on our way.....we are really looking forward to this!!! See you next week! :D

8) Thanks for your kind words, Eddie. Dean and I were discussing how you were such a good link for people in the SW, and how much we enjoyed meeting you/wife and seeing your tear (and obviously others did too as you got the Spirit Award). :D Make the best of your trip west cuz your health and that of your family/friends is most important. I know from personal experiences that your health is truly your wealth. Let's do it again...and try for 2010. Although you'll still get out of that heat wave if you are heading to the SD coastline. There was a blazing one in 2006 too. I see a trend developing here...head west each July. And yes, it would be nice to be rich and retired, but I'm finding richness in the many friendships being formed because of this gathering and teardropping. I'm still a TD groupie.

Thanks all for road and weather information.

I am looking forward to enjoying the cooler temps. Sweatshirts and Jeans packed as well as shorts and t-shirts.

We will be leaving Friday morning. Plans along the way are Cloudcroft New Mexico, Grand Canyon, Vegas ?????, Death Valley, Sequoia NP, Yosemite NP. My brother was in Yosemite a month ago and shared his pics with me. BEAUTIFUL.....

We are so looking forward to making even more Teardrop friends.

We'll be thinking of those that have had to cancel.
