I just stumbled across this thread. I'm going to look at my schedule, but this one looks like a load of fun. After all, it's what the Desert Dawg is all about!!

George, I was sooo inspired by your hat at the IRG I had to go out and buy myself a cowgirl hat.

Of course out in Arizona no one things twice about seeing folks wearing cowboy duds. Here in Vegas it's pretty rare till you get way out of town or around National Finals Rodeo time.

I was going to PM you to see if you are interested. It will be a pretty long haul for you, but looks like a fun gathering. Especially if all the "characters" show up.

I'll head north up 95 to Tonopah, east on 6 to 376, then head north again. Google Maps says 317 miles from Las Vegas to Austin.

I'm putting on my calender. It sounds fun and it's a lot closer that IRG for me. I did enjoy the IRG, though. It's still aways out there but it's never to early to play for a gathering. Looking forward to it!
I cut it three times and it's still too short!!

Greetings from Colorado!

Just fell over this thread while stumbling around...

You know what Grant? I found Hickson on my way out to your gathering at Shasta many years ago. I pulled into the campground late one evening with no one else around. Woke up early the next morning, and started to cook breakfast. Still all alone in the campground. All of the sudden, a hand clamps down on my shoulder and a voice say" How're ya doin this morning?". Scared the everloving crap out of me.

I turned to find this gentleman wearing earphones and carrying a professional recorder over one shoulder. He was in the campground recording the mocking birds that reside in the area. He parked down the road and walked in so as not to scare the birds. I'll give him credit, I never heard him coming...

Anyway, what's with inviting evryone out to one of my personal favorite places? Damn! Nobody can keep a secret anymore.

Sounds like a good time, although I have to see what progress I make with ITG3 in Minden first.

Keep me posted!

Hiya, George!

How have you been? Long time no hear from 'round these parts ... ...!

I don't know what to tell you with regards to keeping your favorite places secret ... unless it's to tell you to get some new ones a little further off the beaten paths ... ... places as cool & unique as this one, that are as easily accessible as it is, can't really be expected to be kept a secret for too long ... :D ...!

Ya know, I may have a distant memory of you telling us about Hickison after you discovered it on the way out to Shasta, but my first really clear memory is seeing the sign for it as we drove past on our tour to ITG1 in '05, and thinking "gotta stop back by and check this place out!" Saw the sign, again, on my way out to see my grandkids & you this past July, and decided to stop on my way back. After I did, and then got back home, I was telling Leah about it (you remember Leah, don't you?), and that's when she said she used to go out there every Easter and that it would be a great place to have a Gathering! Well, I had to agree, and the rest is, as they say, history ...

I do hope you can make it over ... it's going to be a great time 'round the campfire listening to everyone's impressions about the place and hearing the stories they'll have to share! Keep in touch ... and don't forget to let us all know how the plans for the ITG3 are coming along ... O.K.?

As always, my Friend ...

CHEERS!

I just scheduled time off for this, and a bunch of days afterward. Might mosey on down to Death Valley or someplace.

At least if I am still employed.

See you there :)

Hi all,

Since we are getting closer to the gathering I put in my vacation request. It's approved so I'll be there as long as nothing comes up that prevents me from attending! I believe that a few folks from our Dutch Oven Society are also planning on attending. More delicious food is always a Good Thing™.

I'm excited to see a lot of my friends again. We always have a great time at these events and I expect this one to a great one. I believe that being in a remote area in a primitive campground will add to the "real camping" flavor of the event.

Let the countdown begin...

Joanne

P.S. - Don't forget your old stoves, lanterns, and such. We can set up a "burn" and take pictures.

Cathy and I are still planning to be there, as long as Cathy's mom stays healthy (she's 86). I think we will be there late on the 10th, but it's a long drive from the coast so save a spot for us if we don't get there until Saturday.

See 'yall then!
