Philip and Lisa have booked Beaver #13 Fri and Sat. Thinking about Thurs.

Martha24, you're right about Beaver #7, last year we came on a spur of the moment and we got it. We didn't like it either.

If you are unskilled at backing
1 thru 9 are ez to do.
If you like shade and do not have a big unit 11 thru 13 are steeper and take a little skill but are more private.

If you bring something larger and 1-9 are filled camp area conajo(primative) 1-3 are close and there is another across the road above Beaver. Map is hard to read and unsure if Lobo or bantail is there.

But last year we had enough to fill just Beaver. Just to mention it in case more come.
The restroom by 23 is closist while the other in down hill and farther then it looks on the map.

Chris "Italia" phoned me that she and Dan reserved Beaver #15 and their friends Jay and Nora reserved Beaver #8. Jay and Nora entertained the gathering last year with their old time records.

Corrected. Jay and Nora reserved Beaver #8, not #18.

Hey Jay and Nora, have you a tear to tow behind that way cool car yet?

BTW, the records were great! Now about your jokes...

I haven't reserved yet, still not sure I'll make it as I leave for Jackson Hole for my son's wedding the following Wednesday, but maybe I'll make it out for Saturday night.

We're up to 10 reserved sites, including the get together one, #21. There's plenty of room for more campers. Hope everyone has an enjoyable Memorial Day weekend with good camping for folks adventuring out. John, sure hope you make it to the SLO Gathering...no fear of snow in September.

Or rain, for that matter. But I'm planning to camp in Austin on route to the Tetons, and it rains or snows on me every time I drive through Nevada!

Welcome Pat and Jane

Postby Esteban » Fri May 29, 2009 1:01 am

Pat Weston and Jane Montgomery will be coming to the SLO Gathering. Welcome Pat and Jane. I had the pleasure of visiting with them and seeing their teardrops at the recent Pismo Beach Vintage Trailer Rally. They reserved camp sites 1 and 2.

Pat and Jane bring the SLO Gathering up to a dozen confirmed reserved campsites.

Pat wrote that she and Jane are going to Spamboree X too. I feel lucky to get to be a Spamboree newbie.

If things go well the walls on my teardrop might get permanently attached tomorrow. Have 3-1/2 months to get it campable in time for the SLO Gathering. No pressure!?

I called Lopez Lake reservations to see what's still available in the Beaver campground for Sept 10-12. As of today, June 3rd, campsites 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, 10, 11, 16, and 18 are available. If you or a friend are planning on coming to the SLO Gathering it's probably a good idea to make your reservation pretty soon so you can choose one of the nicer campsites for the gathering.

Lopez Lake Recreation Area is a San Luis Obispo County Park. It's not one of the California state parks the Governator threatens to close. I'm glad we planned the gathering here this year and dodged that uncertainty. The woman I talked with today said they're pretty rapidly filling up for summer season.

Am I a cheap-skate or what? Does anyone else feel that 27 bucks a night, for a tiny spot to park a teardrop trailer, is just a bit too much? Surely, we shouldn't be expected to pay the same rate as one of the huge, 45 ft motor coaches. At that rate, 3 days would be 81 bucks, a couple of tanks of gas, (another 100 bucks or more), would bring the total for a camping weekend, to about 200 bucks.

Wow, with the economy like it is, who can afford these prices, unless they have a steady job and knock down 6 figures a year? I guess this ol' retiree will have to pass on this one. I hope this isn't going to be the future of teardrop camping, if so, does anyone want to buy an old Woody? At any rate, I hope all those that attend, will have a great time.

I attended last year and it cost $250. I share your concern. I met a lot of nice people though and I'll be back this year.

The problem is peak oil and teardrops are better for that than other types of trailers.

Yes it may be alittle high but as compaired to a motel it is cheep. We have just started out our adventures in camping with a trailer. Having pulled it to New Mexico and back and to shasta. compaired to staying in motels this is cheep. We have sleep on the ground and now we have a trailer and folks we can meet with, eat with, chat with and look at other trailers for new ideas.
Not every place is low in cost and the costs will be rising in California closing state parks may happen, we may only be able to camp in the backyard one day.
but for now we will be camping at Lake Lopez visiting with our freinds.

Hope you can come

Roly oddly you are an idel of mine in the camping world
I have heard about your magic trailer and the wonderful gift you have in working in wood. Each of the place I have camped I had heard you might be there. I may never meet you but I always hear others speak kindly of you. Maybe we will meet oneday!
