New Feature for Google Map Trip Planning

There is a new feature in Google.com/maps that lets you drag and drop your route.

So you can take all the suggestions from the forum members and customize
the map to see if their route is for you coming to the gathering. This feature
takes the control of the map routing and puts it in your hands. A good thing in my estimation.

Click here to see the new Google "Customize Your Route" feature = a short "Vid".

Click here to have the end point of your destination
for the gathering at Point Cabrillo Highlands Campground.

Use the "Get directions feature to put in your starting point. Then use
Googles new feature to make a map that reflects one of the direction
choices given in the posts above by those in the know about traffic.

I really like this Google map. changing the route was easy. Made it very easy to check the differences of going down the coast or going to Willits then over. thanks for the info.

That was my experience as well. I just tripped over this new feature and
was pleasantly surprised. Wanted to share this new feature as it can be a
great tool for those decision makers that don't want just one map as a
computer set it out for you. Feel the control is now in my hands.

Glad you like the new Google ... drag and drop trip planning feature. Eunice.

Thanks everybody. Still haven't decided but I have lots of options. I just found out about draging the route on Google by accident. A cool feature. Planning on getting there Thursday afternoon.

I'm thinking of leaving Thursday after work and driving part way. I don't know where I'd stop if i do. Otherwise I'll leave Friday morning.

Jim,
Are you gonna take 199 at Grants Pass?
If so, there's a number of places to stop...
You could cut across to 101 at the Hiouchi Bridge and head north just a tad... That would get you to either to Harris Beach in Brookings or Ludlum upstream a ways on the north side of the Winchuck River.
If you stay on 199 there's either Stout Grove or Jed Smith before you get to Crescent City. After Crescent City on 101 there's Mill Creek just up the hill outta C.C., or Prairie Creek, or Patricks Point. Take the Newton B. Drury Scenic Parkway for Prairie Creek, in fact... Take that road regardless while on 101. It will save you going up over a mountain on the new road and save you some time too. (That road is actually just the old highway)
Patricks Point is gonna put you about four hours outta Mendocino.
Oh and when you get off 101 to head over to the coast, I'd reccommend you cut over at Legget. You can either cut across around Redway to get to Highway 1 at Fort Brag or go down to 20 just North of Ukiah to get to 1, but the road at Legget is the quickest to Mendo coming from 101 north.
The road at Legget is windey, but the road at Redway is windier. I don't know how windey the road is at 20, but it's gonna put you south of Mendo and will add quite a bit of time to the trip.... That road is good for folks coming from the south unless you take I-5 all the way to 20 at Williams.
So what ovens are you bringing???
Got the 22 and the Elk seasoned up yesterday and threw a second coat on the 20 that Shelly brought to me at Shasta. I'll be bringing that one for the prime rib... Unless you wanna bring your 20 and have me break it in for yaa.

Oh Hey!!! If you take 199 down, stop at Taylors in Cave Junction (Right across from the DQ) and enjoy the worlds best polish sausage!
You know... You could also pick me up one or two 5 lb. bags of Smoked Beef Polish. (Skinned if they got it, skinnless if not) :R

I have a cb I will throw in but will probably just listen. Dont have a handle.

Coming from Fortuna I will go to Willits (20) and over. The road is much straighter and it only adds about 1/2 hour to the trip. Spent a lot of time in Fort Bragg and always went in at Legget and out at Willits. Now that I drive I do both at Willits.

No handle needed .... on the CB just let loose if you see a Silver Honda CR-v and a TD ...
Although it would be good to hear a fogcrawler or this is Big Iron on the airwaves.

Ok I will chatter if I see a TD.

An addendum to the road to the gathering.
IF YOU HAVE NEVER SEEN IT then from the north I would go in at Leggett. The coast drive is windy but beautiful. The Willits road is hills and pastures pretty in its own way but not the ocean.

Pam,
Will do... Spent all day yesterday seasoning big iron.
Put a fresh coat of seasoning on the 20"er also.
That thing looks small now comparred to the Maca 22
I went to get a shot of the concoction I came up with for a seasoning oven and tell Ira to check out my new smoker, but the batteries in the camera died.
