Hey, Steve ... Cool!

Thanks! for finding & posting these! I don't think I wanna know how hard you worked to find 'em, but ya done good, there, Pard!

BTW ... Austin did witness 18 teardrops roll in-and-through their sleepy little town back in June of '05 (we were all headed for ITG1), and yeah, we did cause a bit of a stir ... but the folks there (and in our cars) were a little pre-occupied with a second-year-in-a-row locust migration. Seems that they normally get the migration once every 5-7 years, but the previous mild winter had messed up their hibernation cycle, so the whole area got the infestation a second time in 24 months! Our cars & trailers were a might, uhmmm, speckled(?) by the time we all got through there, too ... ...

Ahhh, the memories! Just think of the new ones you're gonna have after this trip ...!

CHEERS!

Other sites to see near Austin....

http://www.legendsofamerica.com/NV-Quirky3.html

This was a fun time in the mid 70's...little different now though, I'll bring the IR thermometer to check temps...

http://backyardtraveler.blogspot.com/20 ... rings.html

other local info....

http://www.onlinenevada.org/Toquima_Cave

and Austin itself....this is the real deal for a vintage mining town right out of the 1800's...lots of authentic architecture, cemetary's...and history, it's just a slice of American history that most people won't ever have the chance to see...PS...when I was living there...I got the tour from some locals about which stop signs got hit during the filming of the movie Vanishing Point...'member that one? Doug

I remember "Vanishing Point" But not the footage from Austion.

A year or so after I saw Vanishing Point I made my first trip to Death Valley. Went to Tonohpa then south. Got to Goldfield and all of a sudden.
"HOLEY COW. I'M IN VANISHING POINT".

Luckly I was past the age of chemicaly inhanced reality. Not that i ever did that. No really.

Going to have to see if i can find Vanishing Point.

Doug, even if Iwas going to wear my "cowgirl" duds I still wouldn't look half as silly as you in those pants you wear. What do you call those?

Oh and by the way, its just a cowboy hat not cowgirl duds

What's in a name?

Postby daveleb55 » Sun Mar 01, 2009 1:29 am

Cherokee George and Doug,
I thought they were called "pants." (not that I would ever wear them...)

sorry, couldn't resist

It doesn't look like Kathleen and I will be able to make it this time, she just started a new job and can't get the time off, and it's too far for an overnighter.

sigh...

Dave & Kathleen

All right Dave, let me see if I've got this straight, you wouldn't be caught wearing chef-pants but you don't mind be photographed in a wedding gown.

Yah, so, what are you trying to say, George? My gown was very tasteful, those pants on the other hand.... (shudders involuntarily)

Dave

No one has mentioned masked critters in quite a few posts so I'll just remind you all that Cathy and I are coming over from Raccoon City (Los Osos), see you Friday afternoon sometime, if the camp fills up, draw straws and we'll park next to the looser, or the winner, we're easy.
