New Years in Death Valley??

Postby Joanne » Fri Jul 27, 2007 11:13 am

Hi all,

Doug and I have been thinking about getting together in Death Valley this winter. New Years came to mind as a good date. New Years day will fall on a Tuesday so it would make a good looonnnggg weekend. I need to call the Furnace Creek campground to find out if a group areas is available.

What I would like is some feedback on who would be interested in attending.

Anyone up for a teardrop New Years party? :P

Joanne,
Sorry... Another one I won't be able to go to.

Well... Somebody has to hang around town to campout at the public works office.
It'd be the pits not to get the dates we want for IRG2.0. :o

It sounds like a good idea to me. Have to build a winter campable teardrop before I commit to the gathering and I haven't started construction yet. My parts on hand include a 12" Lodge DO and a fantastic fan. A Dexter axle is on order. Even before construction has begun the spell of the Queen of Cast Iron has been felt.

Mary,
Minor hijack, but cast iron related... Joanne shouldn't mind. :worship:

I just got my Summer 2007 edtion of the International Dutch Oven Society Newsletter and wouldn't you know it?...
There's a Sheepherders Basque Style Bread recipe in it!

Lemme know if you need a copy of it... I'll be back here Sunday evening.
Joanie and I are heading up to Patricks Point and we're gonna be slingin' some iron for all of our high school classmates this weekend.
Oh... There's also a good lookin' recipe for Philly Cheese Steak Rolls in it too!!!
I'm deffinately gonna try that one... YAAA!!!
Whoa-Ho-Ho... Just read that the Philly Cheese Steak Rolls recipe was part of what won the 2007 World Championship. :o

Joanne, I wish we were close enough to go, it sounds great. I am not sure we could get through the mountains that time of year from OK. You all sure seem to have good times out there. Think of the rest of us while you are camping, well maybe just when you get there, the rest of the time you will be too busy. Hope to meet you some day.

Looks like you have a gathering happening. I've never been to Death Valley. Always wanted to go there.

Methinks Doug knows me too well   You name it, if there's a gathering nearby (relatively) and I can get the time off, I'm definitely interested!!

Will there be champagne and dancing??? Will there be television to watch the BALL drop?? Will there be a monkey alarm to wake me up before midnight if I went to bed early?

:D  :D
A truly happy person is one who can enjoy the scenery on a detour!

Hi all,

I haven't been able to check this thread for a couple of days and I'm glad to see that there is some interest. (Of course I would still go even if I was the only one going  )

I'll get on the phone to the campground there and see what information I can get. I believe they have a group use area. I know that winter is a busy time of year down there with lots of snow birds in their mobile mansions.

Needless to say we will have a potluck one night and some sort of get-together on New Year's Eve. It should be a fun time!

Doug, you are nominated as the Master of Ceremonies! 8)
