SLO Gathering III Sept. 10th to 12th, 2009

Who's interested in coming to another SLO Gathering, after Labor Day, this coming September? It'll be in San Luis Obispo County, California on the beautiful California Central Coast midway between Los Angeles and the San Francisco Bay Area. The SLO Gathering 2.0 last September at Lopez Lake Campground was fun and well attended. I'm considering doing another teardrop (and friends) gathering at the same location: the Beaver Campground camp sites with electric hookups at Lopez Lake. There are nearby bathrooms with flush toilets and (coin-op) hot showers.

Please let us know if you'd be interested in coming. We'll firm up the dates, location, and other details if there's enough interest. Good, there's enough interest to do it.

Take a look at Martha's pictures of the SLO Gathering 2.0 at Lopez Lake to get an idea of what you can look forward to. The Beaver Campground is on a hillside overlooking the lake. About half the camp sites have shade trees. Most have a level camping spot just a little way off the paved road. Each camp site has an electric outlet...probably 15-20 amps. There are several fresh water spigots in the campground. It will be a good idea to bring wheel chocks and/or leveling boards.

We're going to have the SLO Gathering III at Lopez Lake Campground Thursday thru Saturday, Sept. 10, 11 & 12th. :vroom: As of today (04/06/09) all 23 sites in the Beaver Campground are available. The cost is $27/night plus an $8 reservation fee. You'll need to call to make your own reservation. This Beaver Campground link has a map, camp site descriptions and photos of each camp site to help you decide which one(s) you prefer. The earlier you reserve the better chance you have of getting your preferred camp spot.

LOCATION
Lopez Lake Recreation Area
6800 Lopez Drive
Arroyo Grande, CA 93420
Lopez Lake Reservations
Monday thru Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. PST
(805)788-2381, extension 3

After you make your reservation with Lopez Lake Campground please post a note letting us know which camp site you've reserved. We reserved Beaver #21 on Friday and Saturday for a place to socialize together and to have the Saturday evening potluck. When you arrive at Lopez Lake we'd appreciate donations to split the cost for it.

  1. Martha "martha24", Beaver #14, Goleta, CA
  2. Beaver #21 is reserved Friday and Saturday so we can meet, socialize together, sit around a campfire, tell tall tales, share waffles, and enjoy the Saturday evening potluck. Please bring an extra chair or two to use here. Some extra firewood would be nice too.
  3. Tim, Margaret and Nicky Hansen "3hansens", Beaver #23, Buelton, CA
  4. Joanne Hansen, Beaver #22, Buelton, CA
  5. Trent, Tracy, and Blake Johnson, Beaver #17, Buelton. CA
  6. Philip and Lisa "notned", Beaver #13, Central California
  7. Chris and Dan "Italia", Beaver #12, Orcutt, CA
  8. Jay and Nora, Beaver #8, SLO County, CA
  9. Ron Dickey, Beaver #20, Los Osos, CA
  10. Les Everard and Jovita Valdez, "Les Everard", Beaver #10, Ventura, CA
  11. James, "jamesm", Beaver #15, Santa Maria, CA
  12. Jolene, "sftiggee", Beaver #7, Oakland, CA

Saturday Evening Potluck about 5 PM. :picnic: The potlucks at the first two SLO Gatherings have been very sociable, fun, belly filling, highlights of the gatherings. We'll have one Saturday evening. You choose what to bring or make...we're not making pre-assignments. If you want to tempt our taste buds well before the gathering please post what you're going to make.

Saturday Morning Waffle (and other goodies) Breakfast about 8:30 am. :coffee: You're encouraged to bring your cast iron waffle maker to make waffles to share Saturday morning - a good natured people's choice "waffle off" may ensue.

We're considering  having a Meat and Greet :Flippin Burger: Friday evening. We may bring some tri-tip to BBQ. We're open to suggestions, donation$, and/or your specialty. (John, no BBQ'd raccoon, if you please!)

See you in September! :)

Hi Cliff, I sure hope to have it (really) campable by then. The sides are flat on my work bench. Did some more varnishing today. So, there's lots more to do. Fun goals help me "git 'er done." Thanks to your helpful PM, I recently mailed in my application to Spamboree. Sept. may become a busy month. Chris "Italia" and John "jhb" both offered to help, again, with the gathering. Thank goodness for good teardropping friends. :)

Sounds good to me
At least for that time of year I can make some concrete plans. That may well be my first gathering for the year, the way things are looking. :? as my daughter's wedding will have happened.

Hey Martha! I have a daughter's wedding looming up as well, in Sept (12th) up at Tahoe. Will be taking a couple of weeks off around there, so not sure that I can make a campout during the month as well.

Just came from SLO a week ago, was there for a motorscooter rally! Lee and I and 100+ of our best friends, did a 115 mile ride around the area, and even had our group spotted by CHP plane, roadblocked, and given a lecture...in lieu of group ticket for a few (ok, several) misjudged redlights and stop signs...'nuff said.

We rode thru the Morro Bay SP and I had this overwhelming urge to pull over and take showers. Hmmm.

The pictures of the campground look great! Only about a 5-hour drive for us, so sure, why not (depending on the dates of course).

It looks I'm going to win our build race after all Steve. My trailer will be done this month. I just have to bolt on the fenders and get her packed up.

We set the date for the weekend after Labor Day...Thursday Sept. 10 thru Saturday Sept. 12. The cost is $27/night plus an $8 reservation fee. We'll also pass the hat at the gathering (we'd appreciate a couple bucks each, please) to pay for a Friday and Saturday group site where we can hang out together and have the potluck.
:relaxing: :campfire: :picnic: :coffee:

I revised my first post, up above, with the new information.

I'll be there, but Cathy might spend just 1 night. We got a wedding (our youngest son) in Jackson Hole the 25th and I'm sure she'll have things for me to do, so I will defiantly be there...

Steve,
Just to let you know I've got my reservations for site # 14.

By the way your dates are slightly off. Thursday is Sept 10 not 11. We will arrive Sept 10 and check out Sunday Sept 13.

Also now they require you to pay the whole amount by credit card when making the reservation. 3 nights is $89.

They were happy to hear the teardrops were coming back and they did remember us.

It's looking like this will be our first gathering of the year as we won't be going to the Dam Gathering this year as that is the date we will be heading to South Dakota to help our son move some stuff home before he is off to South Korea with the Air Force. Otherwise I will be busy preparing for my daughters wedding mid July. We have been busy painting, putting in some laminate flooring and the such to spruce up the house some as we will have a bunch of relatives hanging out here. Plus I'm making the wedding dress. The list seems endless of what needs doing. :?
I will definitely be ready for a relaxing weekend in Sept.
