Teardrops n Tiny Travel Trailers

A couple of us are back from the Glyphs....while I can only speak for myself, and I do love the high desert....I had a great time! I got the opportunity to spend some time in the high desert in the spring and see how a town I lived in 33 years ago has transformed. Claras, a great vintage western bar was still there, now closed, but the elks head was still hanging in it as well as the incredible wooden bar back, dates to the 1860's. I talked with one of her sons and he filled me in on a number of the people that I had known that are now passed.

Temps were cool, in fact we had 2 nights and 1 day of off and on snow. Fortunately everyone brought plenty of firewood, so it burned almost continuously. 3 EZ ups provided protection from the snow and it didn't diminish any of the cooking activities.

On Sat night, Al broke out his telescope as the sky was clear and treated us all to a view of Saturn and other celestial delights. I'd never seen the rings of Saturn through a telescope! This cat knows his stuff and if you ever get a chance to camp with him...do it! What a wealth of information and he explains it all so a dope like me could understand it. I may have found a new obsession....

As it turns out good thing I was home, my mom spent about 6 hours each fri and sat in ER, has a blood clot in her leg. Now home doing well, with sister and niece heping her out.

Other trailers of Austin...there was a tear...but Ken and I were looking at an Airstream and missed it. Don't think anyone else got a pic of it, Joanne saw it however. Guess I'll have to go back and get a pic...also there were several Spartans, some in good condition some beaters, but I had camera issues, didn't get the pics I wanted.

I'm having a difficult time getting my friend from the Tolowa tribe to chip me four just like that one for my cabinets in the tear.
How long did you spend looking for arrowheads?

I can't believe that old Merc is just setting out there...

Dean...the Merc was so full of holes it could be used as a cheese grater...one door was labeled Bonnie, the other Clyde....and a variety of munitions had been slugged into it...If I had brought my "heater" I would have plugged it also. Great gathering! no electricity, no flush toilets, no water, no problem...we all did just fine. Doug

Daughter had the grandaughter last night ( Claire). 33 hr labor, some complications but everyone is OK. and its good that I stayed here, theres allways time for camping with friends.

Doug, is Ray still up and going?? I would have had fun to stop in and see him, see if he remembers me!!

No I didn't Cliff....need to probably ask Ray about that one in his yard. Some of those old mining towns in Nevada are real good sources of vintage trailers. Good climate for them, unless they were used for target practice. There were a number of old Spartans in town as well. Doug

My trailer fever peaked last weekend. Thank goodness Cliff answered an email of mine. I was pretty disappointed that I had missed the Perris, CA gathering a few weeks ago and I ALMOST drove from El Lay to the 'glyphs to see you folks and your tears! I would've overnighted in Bishop... blah blah blah...


Great pics, Doug! What beautiful territory! It's cool you were able to make contact with people in town... and learn what's become of some. Life goes on, doesn't it... *sigh*

Nice to see those travel trailers seemingly well-preserved or not too damaged. The desert allows for that, I guess.

Bitchin' looking campsites, too! Nestled in the scrub pine like that... I thought it might've been more 'desert'-y... :-)~ I finally saw Saturn through a good consumer 'scope just two years ago. I was amazed. (the avatar's a pic of the planet Uranus... yep. With rings...)

Love the arrowhead. As kids, that was the shizz!!! C'mon!

Sorry to hear about your inhaler.

It was nice meeting everyone at the gathering.
Made some new friends, & seen some old friends.

There was a realy good turn out concidering the weather forcast
There was 10 TD's & one couple whom will most likely attend next years gathering.

There was plenty of great food & drink
Thanks to all.

We had a little snow which was not bad it was accually pretty neat, We all seamed to be prepared for the possability of cold temperatures, except for one person I will not mention any names but over all I think he had a good time.

A few of us also did a little exploring checked out a few sights around the area Town,Castle,Mines,Gift shops, & some hot springs it was a little windy at the springs we were ready to jump in, So hopfully next year we will be able to get into the pools, (may stop buy the hot springs on the way to the Dam gathering if we are able to make it.)

There was plenty of fire wood everyone brought plenty, Needless to say we pretty much had a fire burning sun up till bed time, thanks to our Caretaker of fire Mr. Fire Tender himself ( Doug H. )

We had no rain which was nice, thus keeping away the mud.

We also had some sun and very little wind in the campgrounds.

And the stars were even out a couple of nights.

And I want to thank Al Fink for our astrology lesson and viewing of the stars threw one of his telescopes.
That was realy neat thanks again.

If the weather forcast was better we probably would have filled the place,
I would return next year, Rain,Snow, or Shine.

P.S. Doug maybe I'll bring my gold pan or even my uncle's small sluth & we could do some dry panning, a couple of nuggets sure would look good with the arrow head that you ran across

I really feel bad that I had to miss this one ... ... I wanted so much to be there! But, my back just wasn't up for it ... no matter how hard I tried to convince it that it could handle it, it just kept telling me (ever so gently), "no, no, no, no ... NO!" I guess that means that the next time I do get to camp there (especially if it's the 2nd Annual Gathering at the 'Glyphs), that it'll be all that much sweeter ... ...!

Glad everyone had a good time! And, I'm looking forward to hearing more about it at the Dam Gathering, up here, in just a couple of weeks! (I'm gonna try to make it to the Rustic Whitethorne Gathering the weekend before, but no guarantees, there, either ...)
