Hello All!

This is Margaret in Roseville, CA. My hubby and I were signed up to attend Grant's Shasta Teardrop gathering this weekend. Tho our 1940's homebuilt teardrop isn't ready to use yet, we were going to camp out in a canned ham and get advice and ideas for finishing our restoration. Well, we chickened out because of the big rain that was predicted, and drove up and spent a few hours instead. We stopped off first
in Chico to see Marti Domyancic of Marti's Trailer Awnings...she did a wonderful job of making some cushions for our popup trailer. Then it was off to Lakehead. A nice drive...I kept thinking, "why didn't we bring our trailer out?" It was cloudy, but no raindrop on the windshield. When we arrived at Lakehead...I had to stop and take a picture of the sign of the local watering hole "The Basshole." Yes, that's really the name. Didn't stop in for a brewsky tho...wanted to check out those teardrops. The Antlers Campground was very nice, clean and the people in the office were very friendly. We were directed to Grant and Lisa Whipps campsite, where they had tables set up and they were busy passing out tshirts and packets. It was great to finally meet Grant and Lisa in person. Then we began our walk around the campground. What a neat variety of teardrop trailers! Homebuilts, manufactured, vintage, new, awnings, cabanas, lots of campfires. I have to say, teardrop people are very friendly.
There were several home made teardrops that really took my breath away. If you look at my photo album of the rally, you will see that these two trailers really stand out. Or, are outstanding! We went through about half of the trailers and the rain started to come down...heavier and heavier...we headed back to the truck. I REALLY wanted to stay longer and visit with all these nice folks. But the sky was really looking ominous. Heading down highway 5...the rain REALLY started coming down in buckets. I thought of those brave souls sticking it out at the campground...one consolation is, the rain should taper off and will most
likely be cloudy/sunny on saturday. Teardrop owners are tough! Anyway, I've posted photos in my Webshots album..hope that you enjoy.
P.S. We stopped in Red Bluff to check out a tip about a vintage Columbia tandem bicycle in one of the antique shops...yep, there it was. The dealer knocked $65 bucks off of the price. I've never antiqued in Red Bluff before, but I recommend it. Nice old fashioned feel to the town.

Thank you for sharing your pictures of the Dam Gathering. They pull at my heart strings and make me wish I was there to share in the fun. It looks like a beautiful setting for a gathering. It's nice to see all the teardrops and little trailers. Nicer still to recognize some and to bring back warm memories of good people whom I've had the pleasure to meet, chat and camp with. Is that a little rain in my eyes?

I payed my bucks and was really looking forward to the damn dam gathering but..... the best plans often go astray. My sister and hubby had to go and buy a new yacht and they can't crew it alone so they begged Linda and I to fly to Florida on their air miles and help them crew it.
so instead of sitting around drinking Doug's beer I have to cruise to the Bahamas, on a new 72' yacht, for a month and drink my brother in laws beer. Then I have to live in his house, on the beach, in Destin FL. for a month and do it again in June. such a hardship I suffer.
I'm going to miss you all this year but family does come first

Meawhile, thanks for the pics, Margaret! I was looking for a pic of The Basshole sign, too, but didn't see it.

I was about to throw a 20-year-old tent in the car and head up for one overnight... just so I could meet Doug, Grant and Lisa and the others and so I could see some teardrops! But a drive up from SlowCal for buckets of rain put the damper on the motorvation.

I'll see some of you soon enough, with or without my finished teardrop.

Now, who else has pics!!! MOAR!!!

Allow me to up date you folks, I was up there for the day Sat, and it rained, rained and rained. Though some folks did pack up and leave, the hard cores continued to have a good time.
Alot of beautiful trailers, and great people! I'm sure we will hear more when they return home

I was there and took the picture of the table and chair setup, and I can't really explain it. The builder of that teardrop was a very nice retired highschool woodshop teach from Oregon. He had all these wonderful pneumatic? features to his trailer. Picture several control panels on the exterior of the trailer. You push a button and a drawer slides out with a generator....doesn't make a whisper of noise when it comes out...it was done with air pressure? Push another button and the storage box on the hitch opened and closed....in the galley, push a button and a door opened up and there was the toaster...another was the microwave. He had a instant hot water set up. I was so enamoured with his woodworking skills that I didn't notice how the table set up...I don't believe that it was attached to the trailer, but was set up just behind the galley. His woodworking skills were amazing...and he was a very pleasant gentleman to talk to. He is the George Jetson of teardrop trailers!

My hubby corrected me...the tables attach to the teardrop's rear bumper and it swings out. He took videos of the trailer....it's the aluminum and blue trailer with all the fancy swirl patterns in the skin.

^ That detail has been known for years in the machining industry and in the world of race cars and hotrods, as far as I know, as "engine turning" or "ball-milling". It can be done in smaller diameter circles, too; it's a really neat detail but very time-consuming to perform.
