Camping in Beaver County.

Postby goramsey » Tue Jun 22, 2010 11:10 am

Are there any teardroppers in the So. Utah area.? Well, it is getting hot in So. Utah. I have a serious aversion to heat, that is, except in the mountains (7500 ft or higher). Beaver (Beaver Canyon & Tushar Mountains Area). MAHOGANY COVE CAMPGROUND (UT), FISHLAKE NF - FS, UT.Located 12 miles east of Beaver, Utah. Travel east on paved SR-153 road approximately 12 miles. Campsite is located directly off of SR-153. I will be heading up there Monday the 28th. Is there anyone who might have any interest in camping? Very nice temps.

Gary:

Have you been to Kent's Lake? It's stunning! There is at least one campground there.

You take the road east out of Beaver and go to mile marker 10. Turn south and go a few miles (might be 5, might be 10, I don't remember) on a very good road. Check it out on Google Earth.

I don't have a lot of experience on the Beaver County side, but it's a beautiful area up there, literally minutes from my home. I camp quite often near Puffer Lake, Timid Springs, and the dispersed camping area around MP 27.1 on route 153. I'm not a fan of campgrounds, and generally avoid them. I recommend this area very much except for those who may have difficulties with the high elevation (the areas I mentioned are near 10,000'.) Weather should be nice, excepting for the seasonal afternoon/early evening monsoon rain shower (bring the tarp and the poncho even though they don't normally last very long.) FYI -- there's a rather impressive lightning show going on up there right now ... just caught myself staring out the window at it.

Unfortunately, work seems to be never ending. I'll be on a chip seal project on SR 12 east of Tropic next week and will not be able to join you.

Wishing you an enjoyable trip ... I'm jealous ...
