Best route to IRG 3 (by way of Danville, CA)

We will be leaving this weekend, heading to IRG3. I have been reviewing various routes. If I were not pulling a trailer, I would take I10 to Los Angeles, catch I5 the rest of the way to Danville. However, the speed limit in California when pulling a trailer is 55 mph. So, I'm considering heading up US 93 to Las Vegas, then US 95 to Tonopah, NV, then west on US 6 / CA 120 to Danville. It adds 100 miles to the trip, but should take less time going 65 rather than 55.

Has anybody done this before?

Edit: Starting point is Phoenix, AZ

I dunno Cliff,

That's a heck of a climb over 120 through Yosemite. It's a beautiful drive, but I wouldn't do it to save time, you won't.
LA to Danville is 356 miles, Tonopah to Danville is 336 miles with a 3200 foot climb in 12.5 miles.

Cliff...experience shows, via my checkbook...you can get away with 62 MPH on the freeways with no problem, or just stick with the trucks. Unless you want to really see the stuff up near Yosemite...I'd avoid it. It's going to be painfully slow not only with the traffic, mobs of people this time of year, but the climb as well. Just my suggestion....Doug

Cliff,

I agree with Kevin and Doug. Driving through Yosemite is a beautiful drive. But it will not save you any time. On I-5, trucks are always doing somewhere between 60 and 65 mph.

BTW, I'll be on I-5 myself a week from today, and it will be hard to just keep it at 65 mph.
