ARIZONA RT. 66 TEARDROP CRAWL

ROLL YOUR OWN, ARIZONA RT.66 TEARDROP CRAWL
The Arizona Chapter of TearJerkers is hosting a TD crawl along the longest intact stretch of Rt 66. It promises to be a very fun trip with lots of stops along the way to enjoy some of the old time travel that we used to do.
ARIZONA ROUTE 66 TEARDROP CRAWL
September 6 through 9, 2013
We thought that we would plan something a bit different from the normal gathering. We are doing a four day crawl starting from the Avi Casino, just south of Laughlin NV, and travelling Rt. 66 all the way to Hollbrook. From Hollbrook we will head south to Showlow and then on to Payson, where we all can head back home. Each night's camp will have showers.
Day One; Friday, September 6
Meet at the Avi Casino on the Colorado River just south of Laughlin NV. From the Avi, we will start our trip east catching up with Rt.66 before we roll into the old ghost town of Oatman. We can spend some time in Oatman, seeing the sights, feeding the wild burros, etc. From Oatman, we will cruise Rt. 66 over Sitgrieves Pass and on to Kingman. From Kingman we will travel east and end the day at the campgrounds at the Grand Canyon Caverns.
Day Two; Saturday, September 7
Starting at Grand Canyon Cavern Campground, we will head east into Seligman. We will cruise through Seligman, Ash Fork, Williams and on to Flagstaff. For those interested, there will be a car show in Flagstaff that weekend. We will end the second day at the Homolovi State Park Campground in Winslow.
Day Three; Sunday, September 8
We will leave Winslow heading east. Stopping at the small, historic spots on the highway that have been there since Rt. 66 rained supreme. On this day you have a choice, you can then head south from Hollbrook, going to Show Low and that night's campground, Fools Hollow State Campground. Or you can continue east and spend some time seeing the Painted Desert National Landmark and the Petrified Forest National Park and then on to Fools Hollow.
Day Four; Monday, September 9
We will travel from Show Low to Payson. We will travel along the edge of the Mogollon Rim and then dropping off into Payson. From Payson we will all head on home.
We have kept the mileage short each day with Day Four being even shorter to allow folks to drive the extra distance home. Each day's mileage is approximately 125 miles (excluding the optional loop on Day Three). I wanted to allow plenty of time for everyone to take the time to enjoy each day's travels and maybe make some of the stops along the way.
Folks are welcome to join in after the start or pull out early as your own schedule allows. Do try to make the entire crawl though because each day has it's own highlights. We will also have raffle tickets for a raffle each evening as well as a 50/50 raffle to be done Sunday evening at Fools Hollow. We will be posting additional information as we get closer to the event. We will post updates on this site: http://www.tearjerkers.net/new_forum/viewforum.php?f=2
