Dutch Oven Beef Stroganoff

Postby Mike B » Fri Apr 23, 2004 1:09 pm

1 lb. stew meat or round steak, cut into short, thin strips
1 package dry onion soup mix
2 10 oz. cans cream of mushroom soup
2 cups sliced fresh mushrooms or two 4 oz. cans of drained mushrooms
1 cup red cooking wine
1 can Beef broth
flour
oil
1 pint sour cream

Lightly flour the meat and then brown it in a bit of oil in your dutch oven. Add the onion soup mix, cream of mushroom soup, mushrooms and wine to the browned meat and mix the result thoroughly. Cook at 350 degrees for at least 1 hours, stirring occasionally. At the end, add the beef broth and heat it through.

Remove from the coals and mix in the sour cream. Serve stroganoff over noodles or rice.

Stroganoff is one of our favorites. And to do it in the Dutch Oven, when you are hungry, now THAT sounds really good!

But alas, I think I have to wait till I go camping to make this one!

Mike...

P.S. On the same order as stroganoff is a chicken paprikash. Is there a DO version of that? :pig:

I'm doing this one at the Dam Gathering in a few days. Next to chicken fried steak, this is my favorite meal.

I must be really hungry. I just went to the IDOS site, and everything sounds so good. I was looking for a d.o. chicken paprika but I haven't found anything yet. I did find a good sounding hunter stew, here's the link to that one...

Here's the link to the other IDOS recipes

And when I can find the BBQ sauce recipe I posted on Teardroptimes, I'll post it here too! :thumleft:

Keep this up and your going to have to create another folder for recipes.
Not a bad idea.

If we would collect enough recipes to put IDOS to shame, I would gladly create another folder or 2!

I haven't tried this yet, but....

Chicken Paprikash

On the Internet, you just have to know where to look. (BG)

Nice adaption. Have you tried it yet? I wonder, how you use charcoal to control the temp of the dutch oven, as in this line, "Melt the butter in a large Dutch oven over medium-low heat".

Still I think it looks like a keeper!

No I haven't tried it yet. I am busy getting ready for the 11th Dam Gathering. I will be leaving for it tomorrow morning. Yum, yum - Stroganoff time!

I will give the Chicken Paprikash recipe a try when I get back from California. Then maybe I can do it again at the Northwest Spring Fling.

Too many gatherings, too little time. Maybe I should retire early so I have more time for camping. ;-)
