Teardrops n Tiny Travel Trailers

I made this the past weekend and thought I would share.

CAKE INGREDIENTS:
1 box spice or German chocolate cake mix
1 box of white cake mix
1 packag e white sandwich cookies
1 large package vanilla instant pudding mix
A few drops green food coloring
12 small Tootsie Rolls or equivalent

SERVING "DISHES AND UTENSILS"
1 NEW cat-litter box
1 NEW cat-litter box liner
1 NEW pooper scooper

1) Prepare and bake cake mixes, according to directions, in any size pan. Prepare pudding and chill. Crumble cookies in small batches in blender or food processor. Add a few drops of green food coloring to 1 cup of cookie crumbs. Mix with a fork or shake in a jar. Set aside.

2) When cakes are at room temperature, crumble them into a large bowl. Toss with half of the remaining cookie crumbs and enough pudding to make the mixture moist but not soggy. Place liner in litter box and pour in mixture.

3) Unwrap 3 Tootsie Rolls and heat in a microwave until soft and pliable. Shape the blunt ends into slightly curved points. Repeat with three more rolls. Bury the rolls decoratively in the cake mixture. Sprinkle remaining white cookie crumbs over the mixture, then scatter green crumbs lightly over top.

4) Heat 5 more Tootsie Rolls until almost melted. Scrape them on top of the cake and sprinkle with crumbs from the litter box. Heat the remaining Tootsie Roll until pliable and hang it over the edge of the box. Place box on a sheet of newspaper and serve with scooper.

I'll bet it's tastey though...
Maybe I'll bake one for my daughter, perhaps it will serve as a reminder that it's time to clean the cat box.

It is quite tasty if you can get beyond what it is supposed to be.

We make this as part of our annual Halloween Bash (along with lots of other good - albeit, interesting - food and it's always a hit.

Just remember to use a NEW cat box & scoop.

My son and I made one these for a cub scout cake auction. The auction was snowed out, so I turned it into a birthday cake for my brother in law.

Way to go! A dad who likes to get involved in Cub Scouts AND bakes!

Having both been cubmasters for many years, Craig & I have seen our share of cake auctions. Lots of creative cakes but no one ever made the kitty litter cake.

We made one of those for a Halloween party. People were afraid to try it.

My BIL was a bit grossed out . It tasted pretty good though. We made one the following year and won most unusual cake. This year we made a toilet cake which looked pretty good.

oh the kitty litter cake! i got that recipe off the first food email list i ever found, around 1991?? it was "eat-l" simple!

anyway i gave it to a friend in the building to make for a co-worker for her birthday. the recipe looked really tastey to me and i was well aware of what it was.

the big B day came and rob presented the kitty litter cake in it's new litter box with a gathering all around. you should have seen the faces. the vice-provost came in but left immediately!

the funny part is that even though i was the one who found the recipe and had read it over for months and was at least as bad as the worst of them. it was just hard to separate the reality from the illusion. so i shut my eyes and pigged out. fun food!

haven't figured out yet what you could do for some cat hair. you can drizzle a little soda in somewhere for a fresh wet spot.
