I am looking for a teardrop - want to trade!

Postby Patrickteardrop » Mon Dec 22, 2008 4:56 pm

A few conditions, though. First, I want to trade a 1948 Chevy coupe project for a teardrop. Trades ONLY, please!

Next, I do not want any teardrop built on one of those Harbor Freight/Home Depot trailer frames. The teardrop itself might be awesome, but the frames are not. Sorry. (edited by me)

Next, I am open to projects under construction. I can deliver the coupe to pick up a trailer with costs split. Lots of pictures available of the Chevy. It is a complete car, minus engine and transmission. I have a good Oklahoma title on this car. I am in central Oklahoma, and willing to travel up to 750 miles to get a nice, solid trailer.

I will consider a canned ham rig, such as a Scotty or similar!!!

Looking for a solid street rod or bomb project? My '48 is the ticket! I was going to build this until I found a '56 Plymouth two-door wagon to build, instead!!!

PM me for more info on the Chevy, and a link to a BUNCH of pics of the car! Obviously, I'd like to see pics of your teardrop, too! Hope we can deal! --- Patrick

Patrick,

How about learning how to post pictures, it's not that hard really and you might get a more positive response to your somewhat negative request to trade. 8)

Hmmm, that was probably the easiest way to offend half the people on this board.

I have a custom frame, but I don't run around telling people with HF frames that theirs is crap (which is basically what you did).

Sorry if I offended anyone, but those 4x8 frames are not known for their quality or durability. I sold utility trailers for several years. The HF trailers are about the most unsafe frame one could pick for a platform. Sorry if that offends some of you, but there are much better frames to pick from out there, for about the same money. The teardrop itself might be the sweetest thing out there on two wheels, but that frame leaves much to be desired. Folks that are building with an intent to resell later need to consider that, IMO. I know what I am looking for, and that is not what I am looking for. Just sayin'!

I went back and edited my ad to make some of you happier.

Again, if there is serious interest in trading out there, I'll PM you a link to over forty pics of the Chevy. Car is titled, but does NOT have an engine or transmission.

Merry Christmas.

Patrick I like you prefer a non Harbor Frieght trailer (my preferance). Although I have seen some terrific looking teardrops made on Harbor Frieght trailer frames. I have bought five Harbor Frieght and Home Base trailers for work and had to replace every one of them, that's how I got started building trailer frames by making them for work. I think some here have had to beef up the tung, it's probably the weekest part of the trailer. I bought a axle from Northern tool for my first teardrop and ended replacing it because bent at the spindles so I'm alittle bit bias.

Yeah, I've looked under a Scotty, but even what is under a 40-year-old Scotty is far better than the HF Chinese soft-steel garbage. The trailer dealers around here won't touch them, either to sell or fix them. You definitely get what you pay for with the HF units, and I'll leave it at that.

I'll find something, or if worse comes to worse, I'll build one from the frame up. I'd rather find an original that is not too far gone and restify it to my likings.

1948 Chevy Stylemaster coupe. Yes, I know it has a '46 grille on it. It's a '48 car, however.
