1967 Vintage Scotty 'Canned Ham' for sale

t is that time, sad for me, happy for someone else, to sell my 2nd home!

The Scotty, as I call her, was my home for 5 months on the road last year, and faithfully transported and housed Daisy, Max and myself for over 10,000 miles!

Interior is all original.

Supercool additions = solar panels to power lights and fan and water pump
new 'fantastic vent'
25 gallon water tank
new propane system and space heater installed
new tires (10,000 miles on them from trip), bearings, etc.
electric wiring new at the beginning of trip.

I bought her on e-bay for $1000, put over $5000 work into rehabbing, propane, water, electric and solar.

On sale for $5000
will deliver anywhere in the lower 48 for small additional fee (let us have 1 last trip!)

We were generally the 'coolest' kids in the campground, everyone wanted a tour.

I can't tell you how great the solar panels are, I didn't have to plug in for 5 months, amazing! We were able to stay in many national forests in non-designated campground areas and still have the luxury of power.

She is about 13feet long and I'm guessing* weighs about 1100-1400 lbs. Pulled her with my Honda Element, over quite a few mountains, just fine.

The only reason I am selling her is tough financial times...otherwise we would be together forever

The ceiling appears to be rotten/damaged.

Did you make any repairs to the ceiling, or walls where water may have caused structural damage?

Hey Rob,

I did no repairs myself, but had a local company
Rec Tech Inc do all the repairs.

They let me know they repaired a leak in the roof area and replaced anything necessary for the integrity of the structure. The damage in that area is cosmetic to the wood paneling (the original plywood type material they were constructed from is pretty flimsy to begin with!).

I had some issues with a back window leaking while on the trip, and that was just repaired.

While on the trip, the back end showed some structural issues due to me traveling down a bumpy dirt road for too many miles! For that we did an at home repair, peeling back the side panels and replacing and re-inforcing some of the wood structure in the back.

To the best of my knowledge, the structure is currently sound, with no leaks or major issues. That being said, she is over 40 years old, and has not had a structural re-hab other than the 'as - needed' things I mentioned above.

The things that are new is the electric, propane and water systems, including the new fan and solar panels, plus tires and the bearings.

I should also clarify that a lot of the brown you see is not from damage over the whole ceiling

I was painting a clear coat over the old paint (b/c the white flecks were flaking off in my hair, not attractive!). before I realized it was happening, the clear coat paint was picking up and spreading the brown throughout the interior.

The two areas where the paneling is loose/damaged are the roof area on the right where you can see the strip of extra material, and then near the window on the bed side.

If you want that much for it, then do the cosmetics. Because right now it looks like it is worth maybe $1000. You spend a lot of money fixing it and then leave what everyone can see looking like junk. I don't know what to tell you. What are you hidding?

I would have to agree with Gage on this one. I do not see $5000 worh of rehab. The thing you listed shouldn't amount to much more than $1500.

If It was me, I would spend the time to do the cosmetic repairs before selling it. You you going to get more $$$.

Gage, I don't like the implication that I am hiding something. If I was hiding something, wouldn't I have just painted over the water damaged area and said look at this great new shiny interior?

I have an itemized bill from the guys who did the work for me...redoing all the electric, adding solar panels and 2 batteries, adding plumbing, redoing the propane system. plus fixing the leaks and fixing the spot on the roof/structural issues. Added in new lights. Some other things that I can't remember right now. I didn't feel like they were ripping me off...

Absolutely, I wouldn't expect to get my entire investment back. I had people in California, while I was on my road trip, offer my $5000 for it if I wanted to sell it. I put about $6500 into it.

Perhaps the photographs don't do it justice (which is sad since I am a photographer).

I would be more than happy to take more photographs if anyone is interested. I could also be negotiable, to an extent, on the price. But selling it for $1000 is not an option.

If you all recommend I paint the interior, I could certainly do that....I thought it would retain some value b/c of the original speckle paint job?

Welcome Alecia! If you are selling to a group of collectors they will probably love the original splatter but the general public will like something that is as beautiful as it can be. If you look at Doug's new build he has done a splatter that is wonderful. Some kind of sealer and paint will certainly make it look nicer.

Sounds good to me. You might read Doug's paint and practice, practice, practice!!! I personally love your lil TTT but can't get another and need a much smaller anyway!

Sorry you feel that way. I wasn't try to imply anything. It's just what one might think when seeing it and you saying everything has been fixed.

Maybe you should have taken it. You don't run across to many people that just have to have that vintage trailer and have no idea of value. Heck, I've been offered $14,000 for my Dalton. My mistake was not taking it and running.

Yep it is sad. Seems to me that if your trying to sale something. You make it look the best you can and take the best pictures you can. Unless your not really interested in selling it and are just going through the dril to please someone.
