We are selling our custom built 5’ wide Teardrop Trailer with the recent addition of our new baby girl. We have loved camping in this little trailer that I finished building in 2007, but we don’t expect to do much teardropping over the next couple years with an infant, so we have decided to let her go to a family that will appreciate her (the teardrop trailer, not the child!)

I caught the Teardrop bug in 2005 and after seeing a Camp-Inn Teardrop trailer (located in Wisconsin) and falling in love with it (but unable to afford the price), I set out to design and build a similar style teardrop in my Southeast woodworking shop. I designed the trailer in AutoCad and then spent the next 12 months (and more money than I care to think about) hand building the trailer from the frame up. The frame was built by a commercial utility trailer builder in Molalla and features a Dexter torsion axle with electric brakes. Frame is made from 2”x2” boxed steel tubing and fully welded (no cheap Harbor Freight bolt-together here).

The body is constructed of high-quality Baltic birch and poplar plywood and covered in mill-finish aluminum skin. Fenders are steel with professional powder coating finish to match the aluminum skin. The front windows are custom heat formed lexan glass shaped to the profile of the front of the teardrop. The mattress is a 4” thick, high-quality firm foam RV mattress with quilted cover that is very comfortable and queen sized! The cabin (sleeping area) has a micro-adjustable Fantastic roof vent/fan that has an automatic rain-sensing closure mechanism. Lighting in the cabin comes from 2 polished chrome Halogen berth lights. Storage in the cabin includes a significant storage area towards the front that can hold several duffel bags of clothing or other items. The small cubbies up top are great for clothing to keep at hand, books, and toiletries. Both access doors feature fully screened slider windows and locking door latches.

The galley (cooking area) is contained under a weather stripped, locking hatch that has a gas lift assist. The slide-out cooktop is permanently plumber to the 20lb. propane tank located on the tongue and features 3 strong burners for serious camp cooking. The stainless steel Coleman cooler is also slide mounted to come to you for easy access and is incredibly efficient and insulated. A latching cabinet above the cooktop holds pans and plates/bowls, while a latching cabinet to the right of the cooler holds foods or larger items. Under-counter storage in the galley includes a large single empty space (we used it mostly for holding a folding table, water containers and wheel chocks/leveling pads.) Also housed in the galley under counter storage compartments are the 100 amp-hour deep cycle battery and 30amp 120v-12v power converter for charging the onboard battery.

This trailer has some minimal road wear as you would expect from a trailer that was used regularly (but lovingly) and has no significant dents or damage. It was never stored outside, uncovered, so it has no water damage. It has always been stored at home in our garage or often at my woodworking shop under the Hawthorne bridge.

Email me about a special feature/addition if you are a dog (or cat) lover and interested in teardropping with your best friend! The Pet Pod!

Some general specs:
Total length: 12 feet
Total width: 7 feet
Total height: 5 1/2 feet
Dry weight: approx. 1,200 pounds
Tongue weight: approx. 135 pounds

This trailer has a VIN tag and plates (although it does not need plates as it qualifies as a utility trailer rather than a RV). I got the plates just for looks.

No description or pictures will provide as much information for you as coming to see it in person and climbing in, so email if you would like to set up a time to see this gem (at half the price of a comparable new custom teardrop)! Please note, some of these pictures don't show more recently added items like the gas-assist galley hatch lift or the propane tank added to the tongue (color matched to the aluminum skin).

This trailer served as the prototype for the custom trailers that my new business will be selling in very limited number, so you can learn more about the Company and see more pictures at…

Thanks Bizie!
Believe me it wasn't an easy decision to be made...we have loved camping in that trailer, but after a tumultuous year marked by the the death of my wife's father, birth of our first child and my wife's diagnosis & (successful!) treatment of breast cancer, spending a quiet and hopefully sleep-filled summer in our backyard sounds like perfect recreation to us.

The building of the teardrop was a labor of love (and a little blood), so we want her to get out and see the world with great new owners.

Thanks,
Dennis
