1936 - 1939 Ebay Again

Postby Classic Finn » Thu Feb 15, 2007 3:09 pm

Hey folks

Just ran across this on Ebay... It claims to be a 36 - 39 ...

What is it a remnant of ? Is this the real McCoy? Fenders are not and by the looks of it neither is the frame??

If someone just can't live without a vintage tear, this looks pretty good place to start...

If it's really 1936-39, maybe it's a Marvel Dwyer, which I think originated that shape before the Modernaire, Modernistic and Cub.

And anyway, 'Marvel Dwyer' is such a wonderful trailer name that it's worth repeating just for that reason......

The modernistic has that identifying flange at the upper edge where the side is rivited to the roof and the aluminum extruded body stripe on it...It's a dead ringer for Dean Bessoms Modernistic, but appears to have had some modifications over the years...late 30's...I think that might be questionable, but what do I know..and didn't the Modernistic have an aluminum fender as original equipment? If this is a modernistic, those are not the correct fenders....Doug

If you closely at the fenders you can see where the originals used to be. Those have to be replacements.

That looks more 47ish to me.
The fenders are deffinately piss poor replacements for such a beautiful profile... They really clash.

It sure looks like a late 40's Modernistic to me. The side seam, the interior, the access door in the lower part of the back. It has a later roof vent and the fenders look to have a generic set of trailer lights. If it is a Mod there should be a serial number somewhere. Without an actual

title how could you prove it was from the 30's?l

I've sent two questions and have not received any reply either.

Sold for $1147.00 today. The seller never did reply to my questions so I let someone else take a chance. Kind of scary! I hope the buyers don't get a bad deal!
