(I'm curious - What would be the benefit vs risk of starting a teardrop project with something like this versus a HF trailer? The price is enticing, plus it's already assembled, and might even have some useable parts, I would think...Its about 2 hours south of me in SC)

Vehicle Description

Up for bids is a stripped pop up camper. I bought this pop up camper 2 years ago hoping to do a little camping in the Carolina mountains, well I did go camping once towards the end of the camping season then closed her up for the winter. Well spring came around and it was time to open her up and get her ready for the next season. We opened her up and low and behold all the canvas and the cushions were wet and moldy, I thought lets dry it out and clean it up, good idea right, well when I pulled on the canvas a nice hunk of canvas stayed in my hand and I realized our camping days were done for a while. I wanted to tow it to the dump and leave it there but thought someone can probably use the shell for a utility trailer or strip it completely and turn it into a nice trailer for 4 wheelers or motorcycles. I also thought this way I might get a few bucks back from my 1200 dollar investment. Or if your really into camping under the stars, there's no top on this one, but I won't gaurantee you'lle stay dry! Or if you're going to use this as a utility trailer you may want to change out the floor, yeah we all know they use the cheap wood chip plywood, so it won't weather very well.

The frame is in good shape, the tires seem to be in good shape and the tail lights work. It takes a 2 inch ball for towing. The floor dimensions are 6 feet by 9 feet.

I'm listing this trailer as pick up only and with no reserve price, take it off my hands please!!

I'd go for it. $200 max. I built my tear from a 13' standy (travel trailer). I wouldn't have a HF trailer. If that thing was here on the West Coast, I'd be going after it for the tear that I'm about to start.

I'd say a great buy at it's current cost. The biggest risk is that the frame may be rusted almost through. However, it's definitely cheaper than even a Harbor Freight trailer, and you start out with something that's 6' wide and could probably be adapted to 5' with the wheels outside the body.

I recently saw a similar setup, but with the lid and partially-functioning lifts, go for $180 in WI.

It states that the frame size is 6x9. Looks like wheels are inset so I'm guessing 5' spacing on the wheels.

That would make each wheel only 6".
I;am thinking more like 10" each which would come out to 52" between wheel wells. I'am looking for a 60" width.

It does look like a torison axle from what I can see

I clean up his photo a little so you can see under the trailer. His was too dark.

You'd still have to build out over it to go 6' wide.

Well, I got it.

It climbed from 152.50 to 180.00 for the final snipe. Somebody else musta been snipping also. Was hoping to get it for 153.50

Hope it's worth it but I've never been really stung (bad) on ebay before. Now just gotta drive over and get it.

Believe I can build my standy - No. 3 (winter warrior type) on it.

I don't think you got hurt Geron. Does look like the frame is going to need a good sand blasting. Oh, and it looks to me that it has a straight axle with leaf springs.

I have a 6 foot axle I could prop it up with. I believe, if the iron is slavagable it's worth almost what I paid for it. Or is it spelled salvageable????

Has 4 bolt wheels but my 6' axle has 5 x 4.25 I believe.

Cross members may elimate a dropped floor without some cutting a pasting.

Don't know, don't know, don't know -- we'll see.

Got home with the trailer late last night.

Pleasantly surprises this AM when I looked underneath her.

Pic on the internet made me thing "SPRING MOUNTED AXLE"

Here's What I Found.



What looked like rust is simply the frame painted a rust color.

Right Now I'm really please with the purchase -- Time will tell.

Well, that's true if the axle hasn't settled and is still good. I'll have to check the drop 22.5 degrees is normal and it can settle as low as 12.5 degrees.

What can I cut out to make a dropped floor that wont affect the structural integrity ?? Suggestions coveted.

I think the two inside forward and aft members just behind the tongue were put there only for floor support. I think they could go.

Also in the rear if I wanted to put a dropped floor there I think the forward cross member that the winch is attached to was put there for that purpose only and could go. Think so???

Demolition was a pain. I finally resorted to the Recip. Saw and Kick method
