1947 Sundance Trailer - Santa Paula, California

Postby Joanne » Sun Aug 31, 2008 9:31 am

Hi all,

A friend stumbled across this 1947 teardrop on E-Bay Motors. It's in pretty rough shape but appears to be all original. Mininum bid is $200 so it might be a good buy for someone wanting an old trailer and is willing to do a rebuild.

Interesting. Just a note I saw in the fine print, there is a $150 administratitive charge for every thing that charity sells so be sure to factor that into your price.

Sure looks like a KIT to me. So guess who's going to bid on it? It's only about 75 miles from me. Mater of fact, I just may go down Monday and take a look at it and make an offer. I need another project.

 The print didn't look that fine to me, nice and bold. I know where that place is. Like I said above, just may take a drive down there Monday and take a closer look.

You don't know Santa Paula. Everything is open Monday thru Friday. Nothing is open Saturday or Sunday. Although, I do plan on calling first.

Gage,

I've been tracking this tear since it was posted until Joanne let the cat out of the bag. I was hoping this one would fly under the radar so it could be picked up for the minimum bid...."And I would have gotten away with it too if it weren't for those meddling kids and their dog Scooby Doo." My guess is that the charity organization had no idea what they had so they googled 'teardrop trailer' and found that Sundance trailer advertisement at $28,000 a pop. It mentions a brief history of TDs stating that they began sometime around 1947. Thus the 1947 Sundance title. By the coiled axels and smaller style windows I would date this as a 1954 Kit. Notice the water filler spout on the side. I am also interested in bidding on this one. It looks like the only salvagable parts are the frame, water spout, beehive lights, cabinet doors and license plate but for a few hundred bucks it would be a nice project.

Aw man, I don't want to get in a war with you. I already lost one KIT because of a friend and I'm still owed for that one (long story).

I believe they said it could be sold before the auction ends.
First one in line with cash in hand may win.. no bidding needed.

Did Gage say first "dibs?" :o

Well, I don't want to get into a major war over this Kit, and if the sellers are willing to pull it early I guess there is nothing I can do about it.....however, I did have first dibs. ;)
and if you recall I too lost a Kit in that Reno deal by handing over a phone number to a certain overseas individual who will remain anonymous. :o

Looks like the race is on.........start your engines.

Well, I am not in the race for this one but everything about it screams late 40's or early 50's Kit.

Well that individual owns one of those teardrops. Just hasn't got it yet. And trust me, you saved money on that deal. And no race, I'll just do my thing and if I get it, great. If not, oh well. Did you notice, there is already a bid on it. I hate the new system, you can't tell who's bidding.

Now there are two bids  I've got a feeling this thing will go for some bizarre high price. Pretty whack considering it is mostly a pile of rotten wood and '70s vintage moldy carpet. I think Jerome is trying to bluff by telling us he is out of this one

One of the bidders is into surfing, vintage trucks and RV parts acording to Ebay........... *wonderin who THAT could be*

Gage,

The bidding has ended for this TD because the sellers pulled the listing. Did you succeed in making them an offer they couldn't refuse? Before the auction was pulled the price was already up to $460.00 if you include the processing fee. Pretty steep price for a moldy old trailer
