1960 Scotty I've been looking at ????

Hello,
I've uploaded pictures of the Scotty I've been wondering about in my album.
Is it worth it? They want $1500. for it.
I poked and prodded and tried to guess what it's worth but I still have no idea. It doesn't look like it has any water damage. The trailer is a bit rusted.
Can anyone help by looking at my album?
Thanks,
Sue

Might also research here.... http://www.nationalserroscotty.org/

Value is entirely in the eye of the beholder. I've got an aloha that used to be in about the same condition as that. Mine probably has a lil more moisture damage from a small hole poked in the roof that wasn't taken care of in time. I've since fixed the hole, and painted the inside and it looks a hundred times better. While there is some delamination of the inner ply from where water ran down the inside I dont think there is any core damage. So if you like it 1500 enough... do it... paint it... and enjoy camping it in for a fraction of what it would cost to buy new, remanufactured, or to build.

This pic shows what could be a lil moisture damage.

Hi Sue,

As was suggested, look through the info available from the Scotty club for value and weak points of these models.

If you just want a trailer to use/pull around, it may be okay.

However, you wrote;

It is rusted, as you noted, worrisome as the electric panel is rusted (inside where moisture should not be present in amounts needed to do such damage...) also in sad shape is the door hinge.

While it looks reasonably good overall, It does have water damage.
Several of the photos show substantial water damage.
Cracked panels, and a little swelling may not "look" like much damage, but it must be remembered and considered that the water that damaged the innermost layer of the plywood, traveled from the outside, all the way through the wood to get there...

You may be able to re seal the corners and edges outside to prevent further damage, but if you want everything to be as new, you have a big project ahead of you!

Rob

Thanks!

Sue-

What Rob said!

There's more water damage than you might suspect. :(

The plywood is rotting from the outside in.

Sooooo by the time you see it on the inside you've got twice the amount of damage on the outside of the ply. :?

I was given a '69 Scotty Highlander complete. BUT with the amount of damage I encountered just under the outside aluminum skin, They should have paid ME

If you guys don't mind a "little" project I'd say it's worth HALF of what they are asking for it...

You guys thinking second trailer or in lieu of building?

Cheers,

Coop

hello

I am in the process of rebuilding a 1963 Scotty.
It is a complete rebuild. I gave $200 for it .The title and frame was worth that to me. It has been alot of fun to redo.

I built a Generic Benroy (for sale on this forum). The Benroy teardrop is stronger built than the 63 Scotty. I am putting extra supports in the Scotty rebuild.
There is alot of info on the web about Scotty campers.
Good Luck

I'm in love with tiny trailers that sleep only two, maybe three. Thanks anyway. How big is this aristocrat? All that I've seen are bigger.

No Coop,
We realized, with the tear project, it'll just be too much. If it's still there next summer I may go look at it again. There isn't a For Sale sign on it so it very well might still be there. :R

Great news...It's tagged and we got the title for the tear trailer in the mail today, MY BIRTHDAY!!! haha. So excited!! We're ordering our plywood soon then it should go real fast. :applause:

Later,
Suz
