Basic Teardrop~~~Wanted

Postby HappyHippie » Mon Mar 02, 2009 12:11 am

Hi all!!!
I am new to the group but thought this would be a great place to start our search. my husband and I want a very basic 5 foot wide teardrop that we can make our own little by little. we would build it our self but we live in an apartment and just dont have a place to do a project of that size, homemade or something from a small shop is best the mass produced ones just dont have the same charm. ok so basic is kind of a understatment we want it to have the frame, body, doors and windows intact (it dose not need to have the aluimum skin on the out side since we want to paint it) and possibly the basic outline of the kitchen (shelvs, cupoards ect) but thats really it, and we would be willing to drive a day or two to get it and we dont need it this second. ok so the catch since we are young and broke we would like to keep the price as much under 1000.00 as we can. So any body got any ideas we would love to hear them. :)

;) I am thinking Mike sold his EScape hatch for less than that. It does happen! Just be careful what you get when you buy!

This one looks like a nice deal, bit more then you want to pay but you can't even buy the material to build one for less then a grand.

Best thing that I can offer is that you download craigshelper and look there, it saves a lot of time checking all the different locations.

good luck.

I would have to agree with Senor Wolf, Materials can cost at least that much.

Good luck!

For $1k you might be able to hire someone to steal a teardrop and grind the VIN numbers off.

But in this economy, who knows.... I'd be looking for a used Little Guy at RV lots going bankrupt.

California has more than a few of those, I believe.

Yea, at that price you are not going to find much... but keep looking, ya never know. You're not going to get a new one at that price!

Finding a 5 wide for around $1000 is going to be difficult to impossible, unless it needs major restoration. Realistically, even a very basic 5 wide is going to go for $1500 or more. You might have more luck finding a cheaper 4 wide with no hatch, but $1000 is still a challenge. Used Little Guys can be picked up for around $2.500. Might make sense to save up for something down the road. Good luck.

Here’s a good site for teardrops on CL and Ebay.

How about this one on tincan calssified. Is not completed but a pretty good deal for $1250 he is asking.

http://www.tincantourists.com/classifie ... t=3&page=1

This is a new trailer that is under construction. I started this project a few years ago and have since acquired too many others and don't have the time to complete them all.

My teardrop sides are cut out of oak plywood and attached to a waterproof 3/4 plywood floor (Just the floor board cost $100). The solid oak cross ribs are installed. The axel and springs are mounted on the rolling chassis but you will need your own rims and tires. Also included is coupler for 1 7/8" ball, it also includes all locks, latches and locking handles for 2 doors and the rear compartment. It includes a pair of windows along with the necessary aluminum trim for both doors and enough aluminum body edging for the complete trailer. The included plans have a pattern for cutting the correct curve of the body and complete details on how to cut and assemble the trailer along with material list.

This project needs finishing. I’ve got over $1200 plus my time into it. I will consider trades for vintage camper trailers or other offers.

That Craig's helper is awesome! I looked manually thru craig's list to find mine a 4 x 8. I got it last year about this time and it was a little less than $1000. I call it folk art - now the prettiest but has plenty of character. I didn't see many 5 wide at the time - really wish I had one. Good luck, in this economy you might get lucky.
