Scotty owners, what have I gone and done?

Postby xrover » Wed Jul 01, 2009 9:53 am

After a few excursions in the TD, it seems my son no longer wants to sleep in the same bed as his dad (well he is 15). Over the past 4 weeks I have been scouring ebay/craigslist/kijiji/tincan sites looking for a suitable replacement. Small enough to fit in the garage, but big enough to fit 2 beds. Late last night a new listing showed up on ebay with a buy it now price in the range I was looking for, so I am now the proud owner of a 1962 Serro Scotty Gaucho silversided trailer. Photos are available at:

So for you Scotty owners, tell me what to expect! From the description and photos's it looks to be in pretty decent shape and not required a full rebuild.

So, this also means the tin ammerman will be up for sale. She's a solid unit, and I think the enhancements I did on her make her that much better. Stay tuned on that as I won't post until I have the Scotty in hand (9 hr drive).

I saw that one on ebay! Looks like a nice little trailer... and so LIGHT, too! (relatively for 15 feet!)

   Len, Do you Drink? Well Said!!!

Len, I recently bought a 63 Scotty Sportsman and love that little trailer....That being said... It's going to be a labor of love to get it campable... Listen to the other way more experienced Scotty owners when they tell you to expect rot. They warned me and boyyyy were they right!! It's amazing what those nice aluminum skins can hide!
In any case. :tipsy: Have a cocktail and enjoy your Scotty. They're cool little trailers.

Oooo! I just got here today -- and I just found out about "teardrop trailers" today too. But I may be interested in a small one, real soon now! (Small enough that I can pull it with a MINI Cooper Clubman....)

Got any pics of yours, even if you aren't quite ready to sell it? :D

Well now, I do drink, and in fact have a pretty full bar (apparently I don't drink often enough). But, having said that I may have lucked out. The previous owner to the current owner was a carpenter, so he did some fixing up. Redid the cupboards, the roof etc. And the skin edges still are pretty sealed. But heck, it is as old as my wife, and I can wait to get inside her.
The reveal looks like it will be next Tuesday.

Wow, I didn't know you buy the Scotty as a KDK (knock down kick). Actually wasn't someone on the board selling one or did I see that on ebay recently? The scotty completely taken apart and stacked on the fame.

What price range might yours be sellable for? And -- where is the destination on that 9-hr drive to pick it up? If you are heading in the Chicago direction, and if I can afford your unit -- we might be able to combine two trips!

Is "her" the wife or the Scotty? and is that "can" or "can't"?

Am I reading this sentence the wrong way??? :?

Deb, good to hear you made it back through customs. Were there any surprise questions?
I picked up the Scotty and brought it back today. Almost made the trip non-eventful, except for the stone from the gravel truck that went through the front center window on the scotty, and 5 minutes from the border crossing the license plate bracket packs it in and leaves my plate somewhere on the I90. I thought it would be an issue but then I gave my head a shake and realized that this was Canada I was going back into, and I'm Canadian.
"Citizenship?" - Canadian
"How long were you out of the country?" - since Monday
"What were you doing?" - shopping for guns and bomb making material
"Okay, have a nice day"!

The 62 pulls very nice. I was able to achieve 70mph with absolutely no sway. They don't make them like they used to - in a sort of good way!
