With the utmost respect for those here who've gone before me, those wagons are great looking, but I for one don't need (or care much for) that particular teardrop...

It's my opinion that whatever the value of that tear is deducted from the 42 g price tag is still too much for a '56 wagon with no overdrive and no air... especially in these times. That's a $27,000 to $30,000 wagon, TOPS. I wouldn't pay more than 25... That tear can't be worth the remaining $12,000 to $17,000.

I agree with you 100%, tf ... I wouldn't pay that much for it either (even though I don't care that it doesn't have OD or AC) ... but, that doesn't (and won't) effect the fact that I still want that wagon! I'd never pay that much for it ... but, I still want it! ... ...! There's a big difference between wanting something and being foolish enough to pay way more than what it's worth ... that's just ...

I'd be afraid to drive it on the highway... so it would become a show car.. and I'm not a show car person.... I agree it would be nice, but then, I don't have a 4 car garage, so that settles that. Right now, the honda and the t/d are happily ensconced in my 2 car garage... so, I'm going to go make a cup of coffee..

I might like to borrow it, but I have too many things that 'own me' already and I'm trying to slowly get rid of things I don't need/use.... I definitely don't need this as nice as it looks... That's why I go to cruise nights to see the results of hundreds/thousands of hours that others have put into their dream cars... Then I climb on my motorcycle and ride home..

If I wasn't a materialist, I'd become a hippy and live out of my t/d...

I'd really like to have that wagon myself but in my opinion it's waaaay underpowered. I think I would have picked something with a little more oomph than a 302....that car is heavy!! It sure is pretty tho!!!

You must have a real power-jones goin' on, Rich ... ... that 302 probably has at least half-again as much HP as the original 272/292 that they came stock with ... even the optional 312 (though, it'd be hard to beat a Thunderbird 312 with a six-pack for sheer coolness, huh ... ...?). Hell, that wagon would even be cool with the original in-line 6 with 3-speed & overdrive (like the '55 model my little brother used to drive to college). Me? I just wanna cruise ... I'll get my speed & power adrenalin rush out on the salt flats ... ...!

And the thin-wall cast Windsors (260, 289 and 302 Windsors) weigh one hell of a lot less than those old Y-blocks. A fully-dressed, iron-accessoried, stock 302 weighs 450 lbs. Add an aluminum intake (-20 lbs), aluminum watger pump (-5 lbs), permanent-magnet late-model starter (-8 lbs) and aluminum cyl heads (-44 lbs) and you have a 373-pound motor. That's light.

Neat thing about a 302 is that you can stroke 'em easily to (with an .030 overbore) 331 inches with a 3.25-inch stroked crank or 347 inches w/ a 3.40-inch stroke. It's easy to acheive over 300 lb/ft rear wheel torque w/ a 347.

That'd tow real good.

Fastlane is always too high on their prices, i saw it go through the classic car auction in Cape Girardeau, he's asking almost twice what he paid for it

That is so often the case with so many things posted not only on the 'net, but in "bona fide" print ads as well. Buyer Beware has always been my motto ... unless, that is, the company or person you are dealing with has a rock-solid reputation and is known for standing behind their wares.

I knew when I first saw that wagon that it wasn't going to be very pristine ... but then, I wouldn't expect it to be, either ... for that price. If you want pristine (in any vintage vehicle), you had better have d-e-e-e-e-p pockets ... or know that all your stars are in alignment when everything comes together ... ...!
