Four years ago I became enamored with teardrop trailers and decided that I would build one of my own. I started blogging my progress at http://dragonflytrailers.blogspot.com/search/label/first%20build. Now, I have decided that teardrops are not for me. With three kids I need a little more space. So off she goes.

This teardrop is built on a repurposed boat trailer. The sleeping cabin is 46" wide by 75" long. You could squeeze a 3/4 size bed in there. There is a 12"+ deep closet and roof vent in the cabin. The exterior doors have new RV windows in them with screens. All walls are insulated with R-4 rigid foam.

The galley has a 6" deep pantry, removable prep table and space for a cooler below. The hatch opens tall enough to accommodate my 6'-2" self and offers rain shelter. I used a hurricane hinge from Vintage Technologies for waterproofing and longevity. The hatch and door handles are all keyed the same. I've got something like 4 or 6 matching keys.

The whole thing is built from wood which was my first shortcoming. I love wood but my skillset for finishing it is lacking. This is what took me so long. I would have saved time by purchasing a few cans of paint. As it is, I purchased a few cans of spar urethane and coated all 6 sides of most pieces of wood at least twice. Then I caulked all joints and seams. Twice. Or more.

Total dry weight is 680#. I towed this to Newport, OR once behind a 4 cylinder Toyota Camry. It was full of camping gear but handled awesome and I never even noticed it.

There are still a few minor details to be hashed out. I will continue working on them or you may take possession as is to customize the last bits. The wiring for the lights is in the process of being installed. The doors to the cabin need to be weatherstripped (weatherstripping on hand). The galley needs a permanent floor as I made a mess of the current one. I was going to lay a piece of linoleum or similar over the top but I don't have anything on hand yet. I also have some interior trim to install unless you holler at me and say no. I will also include the cans of remaining paint so that any touch up work on the frame or components will match.

Read the build progress and then let me know if you are interested. I made a few minor mistakes but it was nothing insurmountable. I poured a lot of work into learning how to build one of these and while I'm tired, I feel better for knowing.

$5000 or suggest something else. Local delivery in the Portland area available.
