Weekender Shell for Sale

Postby mikeschn » Fri Sep 10, 2004 6:18 pm

Hey guys, CAtrinka, Rhonda, and others...,

Isn't this fun... you build for a few weeks, and then decide, it's not what you want...???

After reviewing the Weekender this evening, we decided, it's not what we want. Let me explain.

We really want a table like we have in the Baja Benroy. To do that we need 6' of length on the inside for the table and the benches. The Weekender only has 5'.

So we could keep the Weekender for mad dashes across the country, thanks Grant, or we could basically donate it to someone who is not handy at building shells. We chose the later.

So here's the deal. We are going to sell the shell as it is, for basically material costs.

We have about $350 into it, for materials alone. If you want it, and you can come and pick it up, it's yours. The first person that pays me $350 via paypal, can take it home with them.

Note: this does NOT include the trailer, the air conditioner, or the refridgerator.

I'll get outside tomorrow and take some more photos for you, if you like...

The last photos I have are these...

Questions... please ask...

Mike...

P.S. Nothing has been glued together yet. It's all dry fitted with screws only... :-)

But the trailer fits it so nicely, and wouldn't you need a wider one for the 6 footer? We want the trailer!

Mike,
Does that mean you are going to have to lengthen the trailer frame by one foot to accomodate the new shell design?
Or does the new shell design make up for that by omitting one foot of length in the galley area?

The new shell will be 1 ft longer to get the table in there...

Heck, this might even be the time to play with the curved weekender design... :o

Mike...

P.S. Got two nibbles already... so it's clear to me that it's going to go quickly!

The new one will be built on the 5x8 trailer too. It's not clear at this point what we'll be building... Michelle made a drawing for me last night... and it seems the most important feature is the table. So I'll be playing on the CAD system soon!!!

Okay it's time to get serious... I am really going to put this up for auction soon. But I really wanted to share it with you guys first...

Here's the deal.. I have approx $300 or so into wood, and who knows how many weekends of labor. But we won't crunch those numbers...

I plan on putting it up for auction with a reserve of $99. How can you beat that. Someone will buy it... Just add a Redtrailer chassis, and your teardrop is almost done. :)

I plan on putting it up for auction next weekend, ie. Jan 22. But if someone here is interested... let me know. For $99 you know it's a steal!!!

Mike...

P.S. And if you really are not convinced that the square weekender is the way to go, you could always convert it to a rounded weekender... like I did in this design.

I am seriously thinking about it, I will be in Sandusky Ohio in July and then in Cleveland. So I would be closer to you. I will have my tear drop in tow unless plans change

It could probaby be shipped via UPS, but past experience indicates it would probably cost 2 to 3 times the cost of the materials I am shipping!!! The red trailer pickup method is probably the best way to go...

I'd have to buy a red trailer to do that... and I don't see a red trailer in my future...

The trailer I need for the tab is quite a bit wider, and a lot less long...

Hmmmm.... okay it's 80" long by 69" wide...

But if it's meant to be, it'll work out... :)
