LED lighting strips/bars

Postby kayakrguy » Sun May 26, 2013 5:25 am

Hello folks,

It has been some time since I have posted to tnttt. Wow, there have been lots of changes! The board really looks very nice and it remains user friendly in organization--good job!

We've had life happening to us the last couple of years--the latest being spinal fusion surgery for moi and Nance lost both parents last winter. However, we're getting the 'itch' to take The Snuggle Inn out on the road again and we just had a hitch installed on our Rogue to take care of the itch! 8)

Before taking Snuggle out, I'd like to swap in some LED lighting strips for the incandescent bulbs in our cabin lights (two ordinary automobile ceiling lights in the cabin and ditto in the galley. And if there are swappable LED bulbs for the porch lights.

I would appreciate practical advice and recommendations for specific products from anyone who has done this sort of 'swap in' of LED's or who has installed them from the get-go.

I hope this finds all well with you and yours,

Jim Woods

Hi Jim,

Welcome back.

Another option to changing your light fixtures, is to just change the bulbs to led. Here's a website that might have just what you need.

Changing out the bulbs in our cabin worked well for us. We also bought a small, magnetic 4 bulb LED light strip that runs on a couple of AAA batteries which is really handy since we can move it around and it doesn't take up space.

I installed a LED bulb in my reading lights. Works great. Bulbs came from Superbright.

Mike, Mark and Wolfgang,

First, Mike, thank you for the welcome. It is nice to try and get back to what is one of the best boards on the web!

To each of you, thanks for the help. I will try the bulbs. The boss, aka Nance, is willing to give the bulbs a try but she has made clear that the galley MUST have at least as much light as we now get from the two automobile ceiling lamps...!! Wolfgang, I did use Led reading lights when we built The Snuggle... They have been very good, still using the original bulbs--5+ years! One reason I want to switch the other lights is because incandescents burn out so quickly and often, the other, of course, is to save juice.

One additional question: I know I need a bayonet based bulb. Is there a table or something to match up equivalent incandescent/led bulbs for their lumens?
