Do I like my ProLite Suite? YES

Postby hwitten » Fri Jun 07, 2013 10:30 am

I thought I better head off anyone interpreting my putzin' and the personalization of my Suite the wrong way.

I'm not correcting any manufacturing deficiencies or shortfalls. I am very happy with the Suite as delivered.

I knew the day I ordered that there would be tweaking required to make it My Suite.

I also knew that building from scratch was beyond my capability, but tweaking was not. Tweaks usually do not affect safety but rather just personal preferences and tastes. In many cases a particular tweak gets redone at least 2 or 3 times and takes multiple trips to Home Deport or the like. :)

Buying the ProLite Suite gave me a safe and properly built trailer. To get one custom built to include all my Tweaks would not only be cost prohibitive but would rob me of the fun I'm having putzin' around making the trailer mine.
I think of the trailer as my tricycle on the way to learning to ride a bike. I'm seeing the finished result of a trailer manufactured to some standard. I'm learning about trailering in general, such as construction. I can learn backing up etc. without accelerated heart beats and/or sweat pouring down.

It's a bit of a challenge downsizing from 26 feet of motorhome to less than 12 feet that includes a hitch. :)
But... I'm having fun meeting that challenge and that's what RV'ing and Camping is all about for for me.

Heinz,

In my opinion...it sounds like you are going to have a great time with your new trailer, Congratulations! :applause:

Waiting for "someday" will leave you on your deathbed wondering why you didn't just rearrange your priorities and enjoy the time you had, instead of waiting for a "better" time to come along...

I'm having a ball and haven't even done any real camping yet :)
Been busy adding 12 Volt outlets so that iPod/iPad power is available with cable tangle at a minimum. Not only for Apple stuff but also GoPro, etc.
Did a little split wood repair where builder didn't quite get latch screw in right place or perhaps should have used a smaller screw so as not to split the wood.
However, while having fun I also encounter frustrations that continue to confirm that going store-bought was the way to go for me.
Was adding some latch bolts to keep the seat-back in place a bit better. Added spacer of 1/2 inch plywood, nicely glued into place and then found that I didn't allow space for the the piece the back rest goes up against. Cheesh. Of course by then glue was dry, etc. so a salvage scheme was necessary. Doesn't look as nice, but hopefully works. I'll find out tomorrow. I figured I'd quit for today while I think I'm ahead slightly :)

Hard to say. Let me know when you have something planned and I'll see if I can make it fit.
A bit of difference between ready and having time :)
Heading up to Kamloops Sunday night for a day of work on Monday. Will be the the first real overnight, probably up at Brittany Rest Area.

Wonder how many new ideas get hatched during that trip. Hopefully not too many :)
