Backyard Camp Out in the Weekender-for-5

Postby Alfred » Sat Aug 24, 2013 5:50 pm

Hey Gang,

Such a beautiful weekend here in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Western NC! Kids suggested we pull out the Weekender-for-5 and camp out in the back yard! What a great idea!

Love it. Many times this summer it was so hot up in our third floor bedroom that I retreated to my tiny trailer in the carport as it was covered and out of the sun making for a much cooler sleep. Not to mention it's just so cool sleeping in her :D

Always fun to camp. No matter where. The kids will remember it too.

Did you ever get a beach chair built?

Good for you Alfred...doesn't matter where you go...as long as the trailer gets used! I camp in mine in the garage in the winter...If you can't get the chance to get away....the driveway or back yard will work till you can, and from the pic it appears that you had some happy campers! Doug

Way to go, Al!

We had our grandsons (6 and 8 years old) over this weekend and let them sleep out in the Sunhopper (parked next to the house)...They had a blast and got to see the deer that come by and feed on our apple tree in the early morning too...

Like Reba said those are the kind of memories kids will keep ....and nothing like training up a new generation of teardroppers! 8)

Yeah, you know, I ran up to the store, bought a Duraflame fireplace log for our outside campfire thing, some grahm crackers/marshmellows/Hershey bars, pack of hot dogs and buns. Pulled the camper out of the garage and around to the backyard. Lit the lanterns, made S'mores, played some guitar, told stories after we climbed in the camper for the night. The kids love that they "helped" build it and now we camp in it. Altogether ran me about $12 to camp out last night, and the kids had such a good time. We do this at least once a year.

Hey Slow!

Well, given that many traditionalists would argue our camper isn't technically a teardrop, it is a 5x8 home-made tiny camper with a bunkbed designed to hold the entire family, with kids, too. The kids love it!

Also, when they get older, it only takes a minute to take out the bunk, and I can probably easily add the cabinets to convert back into a 2-person camper! I take the bunk out when it is just me and the son camping, so there is more room!

So cool. My wife & I used to sleep in our little 4'x8' cubby in the driveway, especially when it rained. Loved to hear the rain on the aluminum.

We recently purchased our TD and my boys and I have already spent over 10 days in it, but only 2 days at a campground! Driveway camping and even garage camping can be fun too.

Your kids had a good idea and I'm glad you ran with it. Doing something as a family is what really matters, where it takes place is much less important.

Thanks for the post.
