If yo go out to the GeoMAC viewer http://www.geomac.gov/viewer/viewer.shtml you can see the extent of the fire. Turn on MODIS and HMS satellite data viewing to see roughly where the hot spots are.

Thanks for the link to the Geomac site Bogo. As near as I can tell the site shows 3 fires in Washington, 3 in Oregon, 6 in California, 6 in Idaho, 4 in Montana, 1 in Wyoming, and 1 in Minnesota.

Was there any smoke at " Walk the Winds" this year? I did not see any comments from any of the participants about smoke. I have not seen anything in the NATIONAL news about any Wyoming wildfires. So if there are any I think they must be pretty trivial compared to the enormous fires in California and Idaho.

Slow:Nope, not what Jerome said at all. You talked about "always have fires in Wyoming". Jerome questioned how many there were this year in WY, left open the possibility there might be one now, but if so, it is much smaller than Rim fire, then proved his point by checking the nice post with the fire map. Yes, there is A fire in WY, and 6 in Ca with one HUGE fire threatening a National Park and causing extremely poor air quality over hundreds of miles and al least three large states. Need to read posts more carefully. This forum is about both reading as well as writing.

Actually there are more than that. GeoMAC doesn't get all fires marked or named. Inciweb http://www.inciweb.org/0/ is one place that lists fires. There are local groups that only list on their own sites. Inciweb lists 10 active fires for WY alone.

Sep 2 fire planning map is interesting. It gives perspective as to how close it is to Yosemite Valley.
