Manufactured Doors, more choices available than you thought

Postby Esteban » Sat Sep 07, 2013 3:51 pm

Hi, I may have gone a little overboard looking for manufactured teardrop trailer doors. There are more door styles, sizes, shapes, finishes, colors, some with insulation, window choices, prices and sellers available than I thought. That's probably true for most everyone here too.

To be helpful I organized a list of teardrop door sellers and their web links in Teardrop Construction Tips & Trchniques http://www.tnttt.com/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=57273&p=1036176#p1036176 as a resource for people who may want to buy doors instead of making them. Please take a look and share your experience, ideas, pictures, etc. about any of these doors and their vendors.

Briefly here they are:

Vintage Technologies, by Frank Bear, is probably the most well know seller of manufactured teardrop doors. His black framed door with a large tinted glass window is what many of us know about and may think is the only teardrop trailer door available. It's not. Vintage sells an insulated "New Generation" door too. Both doors come in two sizes, either 32" or 36" tall. The new Generation doors can have their panel colors or finishes customized. Standard size trim rings fit 3/4" walls. Trim rings in custom sizes are available at extra cost. Doors are available for either the "drivers" or "passenger" side.

GoLittleGuy sells doors in two sizes, either 32" or 36" tall.

Big woody Campers offer doors for sale similar to the black framed ones with large tinted windows from Vintage Technologies.

Woodland Trailer Factory sells insulated doors with a vertical sliding window. Several choices of panel colors are available.

Silver Tears Campers has three different styles of teardrop doors for sale. Several have aluminum mill finish panels to match a traditional aluminum teardrop trailer.

KMT Trailer Parts offers to make insulated doors in their standard or custom sizes, your choice of panel colors, with a window installed or blank without a window.

I added this door making video over on the Construction Tips area as a follow up post to the list of manufactured doors. After watching it (maybe a couple of times) a teardrop door builder could pick up good tips and feel more confident making a solid plywood door. :)

 Found a very informative Vimeo video to share "Door Install On A Trekker Trailers Teardrop Camper" by Trekker Trailers http://trekkertrailers.com/ showing him, step by step, finishing up the installation of a 3/4" plywood door with an outer aluminum skin and aluminum moldings on a camper. Its a well done video that's about 15 minutes long and full of good construction practices and tips. There is a link at his Trekker Trailers website to Teardrop Fix-It-Shop http://teardropparts.com/index.html which I assume is his supplier for the aluminum moldings he used in the video.
