New Mattress not foam...

Postby AlgoDan » Fri Sep 20, 2013 5:56 am

Ok after camping in the Wolf Trail since April, we have come to the decision that foam mattresses suck. We have spent many nights with different configurations of foams setups. So we decided to get a custom mattress made at the local Mattress Factory for a good price. We are off to another camp weekend next weekend and will test it out. With foam/memory foams they can get hard when camping in the cold weather, so with a custom spring mattress like at home it feel all the more comfortable. I will post results when we get back.....

Dan,

That has been my choice as well.

Custom mattresses are not inexpensive, but when I am on vacation, spending 8 hours a night on the bed, I'm not willing to compromise by sleeping on a piece of foam, or air bed, or anything that is less comfortable than I have at home.

A normal mattress can be a little tall, depending on the thickness.
They do range however from 6" to 12".
We settled on 8" for our last one.

I like my queen sized pillow top in the teardrop but I have 5 foot tall sidewalls.

It was just dumb luck no planning involved !

I have just acquired a nice futon for the caboose and find it most comfortable if you like a medium firm to firm mattress. Most futons are from 6 to 8 inches in depth and might just be another answer.
Growing older but not up !
