Little Guy Personnel are Great Bunch of People

Postby Lv4toys » Thu Nov 14, 2013 5:49 pm

Hi:

I am new to the forum, but my wife and I are proud owners of a LG 5 Wide. We purchased the trailer late in the season and have yet been able to take it out on it's maiden voyage. Of course, we have made several imaginary trips with it - dreaming of Spring.

I was traveling east a few days ago and decided to make a small detour to Massillon, OH and meet the LG people. Needless-to-say it was worth the trip. I was able to meet Joe, Scott, Chris (video star), Joe's wife and father-in-law. Just a great bunch of people. In my former life, my job required I travel the country extensively. But I can honestly say I have never met a nicer group of people. Their generous hospitality made me feel truly welcome.

Of course I had another reason for the visit - I wanted to see the new T@G, but they didn't have one at the headquarters. However, they did have a Silver Shadow which was very impressive. I now understand why SS owners are so happy with their trailers.

Although we weren't able to attend Tearstock 2013, I was able to view the photo wall ( featured in many of the LG videos) which had several photos from the event. It looked like a great time, and I already have my calendar marked for next year's event.

I hope to meet some of you in person on future travels.

Welcome Pat! Little Guy makes a nice little trailer. We look forward to camping with you in the future. We have a small Tearjerkers gathering in the planning stages in May at Mille Lacs Kathio State Park. 16 campers are interested so far. I know it's a bit of a drive for you but you should come out and meet some of the gang if you can.

Tim:

I am already signed up. Can't wait ..... It sounds like great fun. Actually, it's about 4-5 hour drive, but well worth it. I assume there will be a pot luck dinner?

I have been working on the trailer for the past day - installed the tongue box and relocated the battery. The dogs think it's a new play house.

My wife thinks I am crazy, but I plan to sleep in for a night (to test it out) next week when the weather should be a tad bit warmer. Then it's into storage. Still need to figure out the storage thing. I hate to cover it with a plastic tarp, but don't have the funds to buy a LG cover (at the moment).

We will have a potluck on Saturday evening. My old dog (Baron) used to jump in mine and go to sleep while I worked on it. When I was dating my wife I told her that as long as it was OK with Baron, then she could sleep in his Tear with us. If I were you, I would either get a car cover for your Tear or a small Shed in the box (http://www.menards.com/main/building-materials/carports-shelters/fabric-carports-shelters/shelterlogic-shed-in-a-box-10-x-10-x-8-grey-peak-style-shelter/p-1696972-c-10153.htm) instead of using a tarp. Have fun sleeping in your Tear. It will even be fun in the yard.

+1 on a shed tent or soft lined cover. The cheap plastic tarps just thrown over will trap water against your skin and potentially cause staining and water marks. The wind will move the tarp and will most certainly cause chafe marks.

Don't do it.

If you "must" use a hardware store tarp, buy the best quality one that you can and build a 2x4 A-frame or shed structure to make the rain/snow run off and keep the tarp off of your camper, allowing room for air flow.

Here's how I do my boat; everything above the gunnel is tarp frame and tarp, only, no boat parts. The only place the tarp touches the boat is along the rub rail at the gunnel. At the rear there is a big air gap around the outboard, and at the front the ridge pole runs off a bit leaving a gap for air to circulate.

Where there are corners in the frame and where the ridge pole rests on the front deck I wrapped the wood in old cotton T-shirts. This blunts the corners helping to keep the tarp from ripping and protects the deck from marring.

Once I had the frame all screwed together I went round and labelled all of the parts with location and orientation using a sharpie, and outlined all of the connections so that they would be easier to realign. Each year I disassemble the upper section of the A-frame (my snow shed version) leaving just a lower section (my summer rain cover) that I can easily lift out by myself when I want to use the boat. Unfortunately, I have been so wrapped up in TPCE build for the past couple years that I haven't taken the boat out once. :? :frightened:

You will happy with the LG.
We went to Massilon to pick ours up, so we could camp on the way home to NW AR.
Got a Silver Shadow 6 wide and love it. Have been on two trips to CO/NM and have zero complaints.
Pull with a minivan and can't even tell its back there.
Nice people and our dealer Dana at Missouri Teardrops was great.
Nice folks, all.

Dennis

Well, I broke down and purchased a LG cover off of eBay ($219 including shipping). As soon as it arrives I will wipe down the LG , place Damp Rid and moth balls inside and cover it up for the loooong Winter months.

Well I couldn't wait any longer..... Even though it's cold here in Minnesota I spent the last night in the LG (which is currently parked under our carport). OK, so it wasn't technically camping, but it was still great fun. I ended up having one of the dogs with me, just in case I needed extra warmth. I didn't want the wife to wake up and find a frozen husband in the morning. The outside temp was in the low 30s. I plug my little ceramic heater in and set the thermostat on low. As it turns out, the LG was nice and cozy. However, I can see were a foam mattress topper would be welcomed as well as curtains. The yard light was a little distracting. It was also a little nippy out when nature called. My wife was going to take a turn sleeping in it next, but decided against it after hearing about the mattress. Well I guess I will need to find some type of foam mattress topper. I am beginning to think the trailer is actually the least expensive item in this camping thing: side tent for the dogs, port-a-potty, cover, awning, tool box, etc....
