Which gas grill?

Postby Shadow Catcher » Sat Dec 14, 2013 8:41 am

I am looking for a new small gas grill to be used both at home and with the teardrop. I have a gas point and 10' hose that allows us to use the small gas grill I bought from Costco for about $100. This folds up and fits in the tongue box nicely. I also use this at home as we do not need a larger one for just the two of us. The problem is that it is too susceptible to wind because of its design and now that we are into single and just barely double digit temperatures it is too slow. Part of the problem is it has way too much air vent space on the back and sides. I can block those using SS or aluminum plate. One of my other complaints most of it is SS but parts are not.
I looked at a small Holland grill but they cook at lower temps (not enough to sear) and not enough heat for the low temperatures. This is what we have

I like our magma grill, mostly because of the mounting options. I hate messing with a greasy grill so I wanted one I could mount on the trailer frame. I just spray it clean at the car wash when I wash the trailer. No mess, no fuss. No problem with searing meat - some people complain that it's too hot. I've found it can be finicky at high altitude and cold temperatures. I have two pressure regulators, a high and a low. High for cold/high alt and low for warm/low alt. It came with a low pressure regulator and I almost got rid of it until I did some reading about the regulators.

Unfortunately, they're pretty $$$. I got mine on eBay for about half the cost of a new one. It seems like a good grill costs about 3 times what I think it should. The Weber Q100 was the go-to choice at the big RV site when I was looking at grills a few years ago.
