Chassis number decode???

Postby Patrickteardrop » Tue Jan 14, 2014 4:59 pm

I have what I believe to be a 1945 - 1948 teardrop trailer of uncertain manufacture. I originally thought it may have been a homebuilt unit from the time, but I found a chassis number on the frame this afternoon! I'm not going to give out the actual number, of course, but I'll provide the format to see if any of you may have an idea of its origins...

AA 1*1*1*

Two capital letters, a space, then three digits, with each having a asterisk-looking star stamped after each individual number, as shown above. This is a 4' x '8' trailer, one door on each side, plus the rear hatch door, which that hatch door is very short when compared to others I have seen.

Ideas?
