Thanks NonProfit
Those are great pictures.
Now for some that are used as "Sleeper Tailers"

RE: TD Made From Car Bodies

Postby mezmo » Wed Dec 28, 2011 2:37 am

Hi Brian/Vedette,

I saw this "RatRod TD" from the Greenville, SC CL back in August.
[I believe it was pointed out by some one in the 'not mine' section of
the 'For Sale' thread here.]

Turned out quite well I'd say. Looks like they did what you are doing -
used the rear wall of an old PU cab for the TD front. The rest looks like
the rear section of an old Chevy panel delivery or ambulance etc..

We always thought the very old Saab 95 V4 wagons (60’s) would make a great camper because the seats folded down into a huge bed... 8)

For something really teardrop-sized, visit this page on the British teardrop forum: The Sleeping Reliant and Sheila's wheels.

Image

Reliants are/were a British institution - a 750-850cc three-wheeler that could be driven on a motorbike license, so popular with bikers that wanted a car.

Standard dimensions of 131" long, 56" wide and 54" high mean that this trailer is exactly the size of a 4x8 teardrop, except for the headroom bump at the rear door.

With a little digging it appears the dub box is made in Worcestershire (like the sauce) and they have a shortie:

This is the standard version

It's a shame they have not copied the iconic front of the splitscreen and just used the back end. Of course it is recognizable but not as iconic.

This has got me thinking of Version II or perhaps III

I wondered about converting a modern mini van into a trailer.

Very nice job!
That is what I had hoped to see when this thread was started a couple of years ago.
I am formulating plans for TD #2.

Yes, exactly. We have a Mazda MPV van and I've thought about that! Two sliding doors for access to the main cabin and and you already have a hatch in the back!
It would be a boxy teardrop of sorts. However, we are at 115,000 miles and everything runs great, so for now it stays a van!
We've removed the back seats and put a sleeping platform with a bit of storage underneath for road camping trips; the area behind the front seats is comparable to a teardrop. Also, it is so QUIET inside when sleeping if you have noisy neighbors. I've also used soft window screening and magnets to screen the windows to keep insects out in warmer weather.

Here is a brief youtube of the beginnings of a van-to-trailer conversion, with everything from the front seats forward already cut away.

Curtis does a nice job on the site. Great trailer! Gotta love cars that have plywood floors. :D
