Need Battery Upgrade Advise

Postby bdosborn » Thu Feb 20, 2014 10:03 pm

I've been looking around for a new set of batteries to replace my failing Deka golf cart batteries. Has anybody heard of C&D batteries?

On closer look, they have a little bit of lead sulphate slough.

But I can definitely get plenty of amp-hr capacity:

Voltage drop wont be a problem, there's plenty of cable capacity. They come with 4 sets of 600 kcmil cables:

What do you think, should I pull the trigger on these? I'm not sure I have enough PV capacity to charge them, anybody know about what the C8 capacity of the string should be? It will carry 750kW for 10 minutes.

In a pinch you might be able to generate enough current to weld.

We'll lets see; It's a 500V string and it will carry a 750kW load. That's 1,500 amps, would that be enough to weld with? :?

C&D make a great battery for industrial "backup storage" installations, telephone offices use many of them, and I have wrestled with many of them in my career as a communications tech.......

Not aware of smaller batteries (golf cart size) if the make them, but if they do, the quality will be good....
