Any Storage Ideas For Under The Cabin?

Postby Dirtyfootcamper » Sat Mar 08, 2014 8:07 pm

I'm looking into putting some storage bins/drawers underneath the frame of the Teardrop. Does anybody have any Ideas of doing this or have pictures of how you did so? I'm thinking of putting some angle irons welded to the frame so that I can slide them in and out while the trailer is parked in camp. Im not sure if I want to put permanent drawers in or not yet (I foresee them getting really dirty/wet during travel as I live in the Pacific NW) I'm not sure if this has been discussed here or not. I've looked around and haven't seen what I'm looking for.

I bin in the floor can be sealed and uses the space between the frame rails. Drawers under the camper would be rather shallow and have to have a sliding seal or a sealed lid to keep the dirt out.
This is what I did with utility bins between the frame rails.

Using the idea of slide out drawers under the camper while camping is a good one but like it's just been mentioned they may be a little shallow. My original idea was to store the boxes in the tv while travelling and slide them into place when on site. I've been looking at SUV storage and got some good ideas for storage. Our vet was around last week to see the horse and had vertical racks of plastic storage bins in the back of her SUV, probably the neatest solution I've seen. IKEA do a great range that could be customised to suit your car or SUV.

That's exactly what I have in mind grantstew8, I would either use bins like that or rubbermaid containers with a lid. I like the idea of having bins to store items I don't want in the cabin at night or that don't fit in my cabinets (ie Shoes and dirty clothes, folding shovel, axe, etc.) I already use a bin that sits directly on the ground but think having it off the ground would be better and I don't exactly want to cut a hole in the floor at this point either. Thanks for the suggestions. Hope other people have got some input on this too.

I put under bed storage in mine. Push the bed up for access. Box is sealed on the outside.

Ours in Miss Piggy are very similar to John's except aluminum framed, skinned and riveted. They are very strong and light.
I used piano hinges.
We use two large (under bed steralite storage bins c/w wheels) for all our clothes and dirty laundry.
Sandi made a ticking for the three piece foam mattress that allows us to fold it over for access.(hinged mattress)
We love it! Everything stays dry and clean.
I think there are picture somewhere in my album.
