Slab City anyone?

Postby Woodpecker » Mon Mar 10, 2014 10:19 am

Went out a couple years ago to check it out. Looks like a fun experience.
Thinking about heading out there this weekend to hang out in the TD.
Anyone in the area feel like making a weekend out of it?

I have heard of Slab City, it sounds like an interesting place filled with some very interesting people. If you like people I bet it would be fun.

If you get out there check out Salvation Mountain. Really amazing place and quite a story behind it. We stopped by there between Christmas and New Years (2013). It had been about 15 years since I was last there and a lot of new stuff. Beautiful and amazing. www.salvationmountain.us

The creator of Salvation Mountain passed away about 2 years ago.
I hear the locals are keeping it up. It is a great place to visit.
I did a sword swallowing show for a big circus themed party there about 3 years ago.
Wanted to go camp there ever since.
Like any large boondocking camp ground there are lots of areas for different people.
Snowbirds in 50k RVs and full time residents/ artists with a stage and a theatre and no police, no water, no facilities at all on site.
It's sure to be a fun place to cruise around in the Gazelle.

Slept in my TT last night. I think I need more bedroll but it sure stayed warm!
I have to shorten the shelf too. Kept cracking my knees on it.

Amazing what you discover once you start sleeping in them and living out of your new galley.
Sounds like you are on your way to great camping season.

I am envious of you "CT'rs" and "TD'rs" in the western states. You seem to have many more opportunities for gatherings and off-grid camping then we have back here in the East. Now if I am wrong, I hope to find this out when I get out there and on the road. Maybe "such opportunities will start to show up then.
