Making up your mind NEW Used Build motel

Postby dogscats » Sun Jun 08, 2014 1:36 pm

In the first part of the day I think I want to build . Then as the day goes on and I get tired .Think best to buy. I look at a few used trailers but most smell like mold are bleach .Get told just a small leak . Then think going with the low cost flat face trailers on E-bay then think how much gas they will use from the flat face and rear. Then look at some of the kits that are out there .So many to choose from. If building building which one , way to many plans out there. Now think going with a kit .
What way did you go and why?
TODAY IS THE OLDEST YOU'VE EVER BEEN,
YET AT THE SAME TIME, THE YOUNGEST YOU'LL EVER BE,,, SO MAKE THE BEST OF IT WHILE YOU CAN, AND ENJOY THIS DAY WHILE IT LASTS

Buying new, not in budget for what I would like.
Buying used, possible issues, limited selection.
Motel, this option is actual why we never got a motorhome.
I went with building my own. Why, it seemed like a good idea. Yea, working 60-70hr/week, life with my family and friends. I work on the trailer between everything else.
I have a shallow of woodworking knowledge, and a few tools. Metalworking, ha! nothing there.
I read up this site ignored a lot of great material. Read the forum, take the advice, build at your speed. It doesn't take long in terms of actual labor. Mostly reading and planning.
Yea, I drank the Kool-Aid.

I did a lot of reading and I did a lot of searching. I went to the HD and tried to lift the plywood. I really struggled, decided to get it later. I will admit I was 63 and wow it really did me in. I decided that there had to be a better way. I cried when I took the trailer frame out the door in three parts.........I got some help then I did the rest. so my biggest problem was the weight then I was checking around for the metal for the top and sides and decided that $$$$$ had to be a major consideration. I went back to reading and found foamies after reading the whole thread I jumped in and the rest is history. Grits was born and is still in the process of growing up maybe one day it will be grown. It sounds like you need to decide how much you can afford a, how fast you want it, what is your strengths when it comes to building. and how big of a perfectionist you are. I would never buy a already built one cause I am an adventurer and I am not a good repair person.
My two cents............
