Travel Tales.. Over The Road

I've been a TD owner since 2008 and have logged many a mile towing with my 1965 VW Beetle.I have also owned a TTT and logged 2,571 miles on a single trip. I live in SoCal...

Prolly my favorite Travel Tale is : After a fantastic campout at Buckskin one winter, I left fer Phoenix to visit my twin daughters. Soon after leavin Quarzite, I spotted a HUGE motorhome up ahead, towin a Jeep. I was towin my customized 2005 Little Guy 4 wide( with my 65 VW ) and I jus HADTA try to pass this guy.. I HADTA ! So, with "pedal to the metal" I came up behind him and watched as he did a TRIPLE take in his massive rearview mirrior.

By now, nearly 2 miles into the persuit, I was rocketin near 85mph with a " chesire cat" grin on my face and excited to be ready to pass the ole boy. AS I passed, checkin the speedo at 85, I signaled to git in fronta him and looked in MY rearview only to see FIVE people with that "deer in the headlites" look, as they simultaneously mouthed the words...WTF !??

THAT is my all time favorite memory from my many "road trips".

Since I was on my second trip, Buckskin bein the first, I was eager to git into Phoenix to see my girls and kept a steady 70-75 mph pace, passin truckers and RVers alike. Then I got hungry and pulled into a "rest" stop fer a bite. Soon as I got parked, 3 or 4 BigRigs pulled in and surrounded me and the first guy JUMPED outta his rig like it was on fire ! He runs over and in an excited voice says,"What the Hell do you have in THAT thing!? You passed me goin 75 ! "

I was relieved that my fears of cuttin him off or annoyin him were vanished and he and his cohorts were incredulous that this "vintage" VW could perform as it did.

So... let's hear YER "Travel Tales" !
